Hi

I have been at zero Valium for eight days now.

For some reason I at this point have always taken a rescue dose.

This time, so far so good.

My withdrawal has been bad and the thought of it getting even worse

in week two, has thrown me out of balance.

Does anyone experience a better second week then week one?

I need something to help keep me strong at this point and hope for some replies.

Thanks for listening.

Have you gotten completely off and reinstated before? Trouble understanding your signature

I'll be correcting my signature. I have been completely off for weeks except for rescue doses.

Ok - I'm curious though if this was your first taper to completion or if you have gotten completely off and reinstated after weeks or months?

I've never reinstated after I went down to zero except for weekly rescue doses.

I have to tell you that you are in acute and this tends to go the way "oh no - even worse this week?!" for a long time, BUT after that, windows are coming and you will be happier.

Maybe because of the Valium it takes a week until you reach the real ZERO-feeling.

Try not to avoid that feeling. The more you fight it, the worse it gets.

And: Its normal to think you cannot make it.

We all were thinking that we would either die, kill ourselves, go crazy, will be brought to the ER, or just freak out.

We were screaming, jelling, crying, and it felt like the worst hell that could exist on the planet.

But as you can read in many many posts here: it gets better.

Hand off from rescue doses because it lets you start all over again. and again. and again. You don't have the strength to do that again and again.

Great post Marigold - I second the "no rescue doses" - 1 step forward, 2 steps back - I was taking Ambien and drinking the first time I came off these drugs because I didn't know any better and didn't know I was in withdrawal - I think it aggravated my sxs horribly - hang in there - keep posting - (((HUGS)))

Thank you for your replies.

Does anybody here have had an experience of a better second week?

I'm on day 13 and the 2nd week has gotten a little worse. Day 9 had a spike in sxs mainly Tinnitus, and day 13 it is worse than previously, waiting for it to get better this week and wish you the best!

One week, two weeks...? Think you will have to learn to bite the bullet, because you are in for a very long and bumpy ride....a smooth redraw is just not possible, ...more than 18 months out still waiting for my first window....

Miri,

If you decide you want to come off the Valium, or any drug for that matter, your commitment to staying off the drugs needs to be solid because the back and forth on and off could cause you problems down the road.  The reason you keep taking rescue doses after a week off is because you start feeling a delayed withdrawal with Valium.  It has a long half life so stays in your system longer than other benzos.  Keep reading Valium threads on the forum and you will get lots of info on how Valium works and why you feel the way you do.

Over time, we all start feeling better and better and we heal completely, regardless of the negative post above.  Don't get discouraged.  If you are having too much trouble dealing with the WD symptoms, you may want to consider reinstating and doing a microtaper, rather than continuing to take rescue doses, which are confusing your brain and CNS.  Instability is not a good thing in WD.  Many people have success with microtapering.

You'll be okay.  Oostende should not have said what he did because this forum is a place to get and give support, not to scare new people.  You just need to decide on a plan and stick to it and you'll be fine.

Thank you Sofakingdone

I aappreciate your post above.

I already know this is a rough ride, so its hard to read such a negative post.

We are all different, and the one above could also have other issues.

My withdrawals are mainly physical so far, so I'm just hoping I won't get hit with bad anxiety.

I know the rescue doses mess up things, but as you know this is hard,

and posts like the one above is not very helpful.

It just wants you to take yet another rescue dose.

Will this just get worse and worse, or am I now at the roughest point?
