What is the half life of Diazepam?

My sister who is a GP doesn't believe that Valium has a 20-100 hours half life. Does anyone have a scientific source showing this? She doesn't believe Wikipedia. Thankyou.

No offense to your sister but she doesnt know shit then and you really should care if she doesnt inow unless she treats you. Convincing family members on this garbage is pointless and a waste of healing energy!! Seriously just walk away from valudation from oeople that just dont get it!

To be fair, not many GP's know shit about Benzo's. I have only found one GP, a really good one who works with me. I don't think he believes me that this is withdrawal but he's a lovely guy and helps.

 

I think some GP's do believe but they play it down due to litigation threats - which are real. The GP who put me on this, was responsible for me getting dependant - she kept me on for 2 years and told me as long as I don't take it every day I won't become addicted (bullshit.). I have considered at the very least writing her an angry letter about what I've been through.

 

Anyways I want to educate my sister. Anyone know a solid link?

Thanks Nova! Why didn't I think of the Ashton manual? I keep forgetting that it is in html firm online, I bought the hard copy.

 

My theory on how I got dependant was that I was taking valium as needed (sometimes up to 4 days apart)  but it was within the huge half life, so in actual fact I had a small amount in my system at all times for a long time so hence got dependant. It took a couple of years to happen but it bloody well did.  She said the half life wasn't that long but it is. She can't argue with that, cheers!

You are correct. I wonder where your sister is getting her information from. Everything on the internet show an extremely long half life for Valiun.  Because the half life is so long is one reason it is often used as a cross over benzodiazepine.

She just texted me saying I was right. I know my sister is an excellent GP but I think in medical school they don't touch enough on the dangers of Benzo's. Thanks Nova and Benzosrcruel!
