Hi,

My doctor just prescribed me Gabapentin for shingles (nerve pain) and I wanted to get some information from anyone that has taken it.  I don't want to get addicted to another drug and have to taper off of it no matter how much pain I am in!  Thank you for any info.

Hi LaHenz,

I was prescribed gabapentin during a rapid taper from Ativan, and I found that as a side benefit it took the edge off the bad nerve pain I have in my feet (neuropathy).

I noticed that I had to keep upping my dose though, and eventually it was not worth staying on it because it caused my feet to swell, and by then I had jumped anyway. I was able to taper off rather quickly.

You could try it for a while and see if it helps though.

Good luck!
