So I've had pretty bad GI issues throughout my taper. I guess what I want to know is when do you know it's a problem worth going to a primary doc about or any over the counter meds help folks? Stomache cramps, pain in stomache, diarrhea, constantly urinating, so on and so forth. Heard of folks getting kidney infections and other things, just trying to cover my bases here. Thanks

I started having stabbing abdominal pains during my Ativan taper and I began taking probiotics (Primal Defense Ultra) for it. I take three pills a day with meals even though it says to take it on an empty stomach because it gives me heartburn on an empty stomach. This crap is EXPENSIVE but it keeps me out of pain and so I'm just going to take it as long as I'm tapering and then gradually cut down on it.

I actually did see the surgeon that did my appendectomy about this pain and he said that as long as there was no blood and no pain, to continue on the probiotics and come back to him if the pain returned or if there was blood. As a former hypochondriac (er, trying to be a former one, anyway!), I've learned that emergencies are actually pretty obvious. You KNOW when you have to go. There's not a question about it.

Of course, it doesn't have to be an emergency to see a doc. It's tricky though because if they're not benzo-wise, they don't realize that it can all be caused by WDs. But it can't hurt to have some diagnostic tests done. Particularly if you have them redone to confirm after you're fully off benzos. I have seen that some people were diagnosed with MS during WD and then it turned out they didn't have it! Crazy stuff.

Everything is so complicated when we're doing this. I cannot wait until it's all over so that it will be crystal clear when I'm having a real health problem! :idiot:
