It's a tough process but with the right documentation it's possible. The amount you get is dependent on your earnings for the past 3 years. You can still earn up to 1100.00 a month working. Just make sure every little problem is documented no matter how insignificant you may think it is. I applied for it on my own and received it on the first application but I do have a blue book disorder and it was before I started to taper the Valium.  Good luck!  :)--V

Do you mean 1100 is the max money I would get?

And blue book do u mean the dsm? Like major depressive or bipolar or a medical condition?

Thank you

No. 1100.00 is what you can make on your own. Disability has a Blue Book of disorders that are considered severe and likely to qualify. You can look them up online. I know some mental disorders qualify under blue book guidelines. It doesn't necessarily have to be a blue book to get disability. You just need to have good documentation and go through a functional exam through SSD.  :)--V

I got it for an anxiety disorder.  Applied online first, was denied, then got a good disability attorney.  They take a cut of your lump sum payment when you win the case then.  Good documentation wins a case.

Your doctor filled it out for anxiety?

How much did lawyer get and roughly can you tell me how much the monthly payment is?

Sorry just stressing out

Hope I don't need a disability lawyer. Ugh can't think straight

I got it for major depression.  This was years ago.  I was turned down twice and then got a lawyer.  I had to go thru a hearing before an administrative law judge.  The lawyer takes a cut of your back payments only.  You get retroactive payments from the date your disability started or your application (can't remember).  The process can take a long time.  Your monthly benefit will depend on how much you were making prior - low income workers get less than high earners, similar to how SS benefits work.  If you have minor children they will get an additional 1/2 of what you are receiving including back payments.  You cannot work while the application is being processed - this disproves your disability.

How long does it take from start to finish?

There will be boxes for your doctor to check.  These relate to your level of impairment/function.  They need to be 4's and 5's.  My app took longer b/c my first doc refused to take the time to fill out the forms and did not tell me this.  I only found out when I was denied.  When I confronted him he said that SS did not pay enough for his time.  Got a new doc!

I heard that now they assign you a case worker and that you can call this person for updates and they will call you if forms have not been submitted.  This seems like it would make things go faster.  Mine took 17 months.  You will also get medicare but there is a further waiting period for that.

Shit I can't believe it took you 17 mos to get it

I have no idea what I will do financially during that time omg

Do you have a worker assigned?  I'm sure that yours will go faster than mine did.  The delay makes it very difficult for people who don't have family help or a spouse.  I don't know how anyone survives that long with no income.

Mine only took about 6 months from start to finish.  Don't know why.  All cases are different.  Maybe because the docs stated I was suicidal on the documents.
