Hi everyone!  I usually post on the post withdrawal recovery board.  I'm currently 11 months off of a year and a half of intermittent xanax use. I took it every day at times and other times a couple times a week.  I cold-turkeyed and had taken a bad antibiotic that wrecked more havoc on my nervous system.

Am I doomed to have protracted withdrawal symptoms? I know there is no possible way of knowing.  But I value all of your opinions and am so sorry that you are experiencing this still.  I pray healing is around the corner for you. Thank you for your thoughts.  :)

of course you're not, you have to really get the crap down before you get protracted, like me… read my sig line

it might, if the worst comes to the worst, take you 3 or 4 years (Una Corbett, of Battle against Tranquillisers says that this is normal and you can't consider yourself protracted until you've been off for 5 years,) but I can guarantee that you will not be truly protracted

and even if you did have a history like mine you still would not be doomed, it all depends on your metabolism, and everyone's is different, so stop torturing yourself and concentrate on getting better!!

Frankly, your sig scares the hell out of me, and probably most people here

Most people seem to heal up pretty good in the first year or two. No reason to believe that you won't be one of them.

Polenta, Thank you so much. You made me feel so much better.  I was just concerned because my body is so sensitive to everything. And you weren't that bad...it's not like you knew the drugs were doing this to you! You are such a kind person...thank you from the bottom of my heart  :smitten:

Offeverything, I laughed so hard when I saw this comment...thank you for that! I'm actually still laughing.  I wrote it during acute and really didn't change much of it.  I guess I could delete the acute stuff! lol Thanks again  :2funny:

FloridaGuy, Thanks for the positivity. I really needed to hear that. I'm going to stick with the 2 year mark as a good healing point. I hope you heal quickly too

Thank you Polenta! Sometimes I just need to hear it from others.  :smitten:

I wish there were others for me to hear from!!!! but i only know of 2 ppl who are still ill at my stage… and I know of one person who recovered completely after 25 years off, so that gives me a bit of hope.  but it's a lonely road for ppl like me.

It took someone 25 years to heal? Lol, seriously?

well it's taken me 23 years to nearly heal…and I"m not laughing!

and i know somebody who was on Ativan for 10 years ( a low dose) WHO took 15 years to get better

but why this morbid fascination?

How long have you been off benzos polenta? When you say it took someone 15 years to heal, do you mean it took 15 years after being off benzos, or 15 years including the time they were on benzos? Nothing morbid about it, just curious.

15 years after coming off and she tapered over  a year.

I have been off benzos since 1989, but was persuaded to take anafranil a year later and it took me 3 years to get off the anafranil.
