WILL BE UPSETTING FOR THOSE WHO ARE IN A FRAGILE STATE

The documentary is now available online.  Shane Kenny was prescribed benzos for Meniere's disease and has been badly affected.

Features Professor Heather Ashton and Professor Malcolm Lader, foremost experts on benzodiazepines in the UK.  Please share as widely as possible.

I am watching it now and it is well worth watching.

Benzo disaster is compared to the Thalidomide disaster but it is less visible.

This is an EXCELLENT film! Thank you so much for posting it, Fiona. I'm really pleased that I could get a chance to see it. And I'm so grateful to the filmmaker for meeting with both Dr. Heather Ashton and Dr. Malcolm Lader so that we could all hear the important knowledge they've gleaned over their many, many years of work in this field.

Watching this now, fantastic show and they talk about protracted issues. I am going to repost this on the protracted board  :)

Interesting that Dr. Lader feels that the best way to pressure doctors and drug companies into reforming themselves is through successful legal action on the part of victims.

Thanks for posting this video.  Professor Ashton is a saint.

Thank you for posting this Fiona. Professor's Ashton and Ladler are saints in my book, too.

Thanks for posting, Fiona.  Yes, it is an excellent documentary and, yes, it likely will be very triggering for many.  So heads-up on that, people need to decide for themselves their frame of mind and whether they're up to it.

Thanks again for the share, Fiona!

I am pleased that you all like the documentary.  I am just wondering what Shane Kenny is going to do with it.  I wonder how much exposure it will get.  I do hope he can get it widely circulated.  It is good that the momentum keeps building here in the UK and now Ireland.  I don't know how big a problem benzos are in Ireland.  It is a good documentary to circulate in all countries.

Very informative - thank you for posting it.  I intend giving my GP the link so that the whole Practice can educate themselves

That would be great, Susie.  I do hope your GPs are receptive.

Thank you Fiona!  That was excellent:thumbsup:

I do wish that it would quit being repeated, the 2-4 week time period to take benzos, because people can be dependent on these drugs within that period of time and suffer consequences for months.

I found this to be an excellent video overall. Very well done!!

That's true, Terry, but I think they're repeating it because they're talking about the stated indication for benzodiazepine use according to many medical sources. Most of us took it for waaaay longer than that, of course. Here's a medical journal article that refers to the "recommendations to limit benzodiazepines to short-term use (2–4 weeks)":

If the "2-4 weeks" included a taper period, e.g. 1 week of use, plus 2-3 weeks of taper, then perhaps much of the horror could be avoided. I doubt that happens very often, though.

Yes, I think that's excellent what you wrote! Yet the 2-4 week period seems more ingrained now.

Thank you for the link!

You're welcome, Terry! I remember reading about that idea somewhere, i.e. that the 2-4 weeks should include the taper period. It would have to be a savvy doctor who would prescribe that way, but come to think of it, that's the way Prednisone is prescribed.  There's an awareness that it can't be stopped suddenly. The same should be true of benzodiazepines and SSRIs.

Lapis, I thought Richard Lewis from Mad In America said something about that tapering period, too.

I'm not familiar with Prednisone, but the same should be true of benzos and SSRIs, absolutely!
