SOS - Panic attack?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

SOS - sitting at work and heart rate has been jumping between 95 and 115. Thought it was a panic attack but doesn't seem to be subsiding. Has been about an hour. Not sure how to make it stop, considering going to the urgent care. Any tips?

Hi,

It will probably go away on it's own, but I've got relatives with this issue (occasional tachycardia runs in my family) and here are a few ways that might make it stop:  coughing is one.  Also, bearing down as if one is having a bowel movement - this is said to affect the vagus nerve.

Don't worry, you'll be fine.  :smitten:

Thank you, Megan! Unfortunately, the bearing down was of no help today. It would go down for a minute or two then back up. I felt the weird anxiety coming on since yesterday, so not surprised it happend. But it seems to be finally subsiding (hopefully for the day).  :-\

I had that happen to me I ended up in the ER.  I thought it was another blood clot. I got the full heart workup.  I now take beta blockers and it helps with the heart rate.  But even at 80bpm it still sometimes just feels like its beating much harder

If you know you have good heart health, I wouldn't worry about it, unless you want to call for a beta blocker just in case.  I don't think its very good to have your heart racing for days like mine was.

Thanks, tinwi! I've actually had a full workup, when I started getting panic attacks they did the echo, ekgs, holter monitor, until finally they were like - it's anxiety you can stop now hahaha. My cardiologist doesn't want me on beta blockers unless it goes on for a while, since most of the time I'm comfortable in the 70s with spikes when I have anxiety days. But, I do have atenolol with me just in case it becomes unbearable!

:thumbsup:Its nice to have the beta blocker in case.

Well, had to take the atenolol tonight against doctors orders. Pulse was in the 120s. Now settled into the 80s. Ugh I hate withdrawal. Does updosing ever help on days like this?
