Extreme Fear...Help

Recommended Posts

I have been dealing with an extreme fear sensation for about a month.  It is so intense makes it hard to do anything, eat, sleep, or distract.  I have never had a fear sensation so strong, it is constant.  I try to ignore it and not fuel it with my attention.  It's overwhelming....can anyone relate?

Typical anxiety. Feeling impending doom when there's really nothing to be scared of. I get that too :(

Hang in there trying. Eventually it will get better and better. It's horrible fearing stuff but I think we all go through this at times. Try to distract yourself as much as you can. And try not to fear the fear. Makes it worse. So hang tough. Like most things it will pass. B

Yes, I had it too. Severe panic attacks and anxiety for the first three months. It gradually got better. Thank god! Its the drug not you.

I'm grappling with that at this cut too and it really threw me for a loop because I was mostly dealing with physical symptoms up to now. Talking to my partner about it is the best thing I can do because it keeps me connected to the real world and I can get some perspective from someone who has been through it as a fellow anxiety sufferer. It is just horrible when it hits. My heart goes out to everybody in this thread. We have to remember that it will eventually pass. This is one of those times when distraction is the best way to deal with it, but it sure is difficult to do when it's happening.

I had this "extreme fear" you talk about, consistently for 3-4 months during my taper.  One benzo buddy wrote that his fear /anxiety was like "being in a room with a tiger."  I completely identified with that.. I don't know if you believe in a higher power, butt when it got this bad, I would just recite "The Lord's Prayer over and over again.  Always, after I did that for a while, I'd start to feel better.. I would be reduced to a quivering, crying mess and then I would pray my ass off.. Usually, within the hour I'd start to feel some relief.

You've probably heard the saying that, "there's no such thing as an atheist in a foxhole" and I am a firm believer in that.. You definitely have nothing to lose by trying it (if you don't already : )

Hope this helps.. I'm almost 8 months off, and I don't have that crazy fear anymore, but I still pray when I'm smart enough to remember to do so!

Eric
