Trazodone nightmare

I stupidly did a rapid taper of trazodone (75 mg to 0) in 2 months.  All hell broke loose.  White-knuckled it for 6 weeks then reinstated to 50mg.  Worked beautifully for 1 month and now no longer working well.  Increased to 62mg, but no improvement.  Don't know what to do.  If I add another med to this for sleep, I will never get off. But can I go on 3 hours of sleep a night for the next year and a half while I taper again.  Anyone else in a similar position?  Need some encouragement.

To top it off, I believe I am in a minor Seroquel wd. I had been using Seroquel on an as-needed rescue basis.  Used three times (during wd after taper for 6 weeks alt nights 25 mg, two other times for 7 days each, 10 mg at most), immediately had fatigue after quitting last time.  Now, Anxiety off the charts, depression setting in because I can barely function on lack of sleep.

Beware all, of using same doses of other drugs, you may have wd from it too.

When you say "all hell broke loose", (after rapid taper) what do you mean?

I had all the symptoms of klon wd, at the same intensity. I have to say that last night Traz worked, got 6 hrs, so hope this is just a brutal wave.  I will post more if amy more improvements.

You've had a lot of changes lately, so it's hard to say what is really going on. But the fact that you did well last night bodes well. I would suggest stabilizing on the trazadone, then planning a slow taper. No reason to hurry things, let your body recoup from the Seroquel withdrawal. Sleep is likely to be a bit rocky for a while unfortunately.

Trazadone is similar to the drug that I got off recently (after 35 years!) so I know it can be tapered successfully. Larger doses can go down pretty quickly, but the last, smallest doses are the most critical ones, and the ones that need to go slow, counter intuitive to what you might think. If for some reason you feel you need to reinstate (try very hard to resist!), a much smaller dose will usually suffice, but it takes a few days to "register", and most people panic and up the dose too much.

Meowie, thanks for your words of advice and encouragement. I needed that🙂.  How are you sleeping now and were you able to sleep on the last crumbs of amitryp?

Thanks for asking--overall I am doing surprisingly well. I have a dental issue right now that has given me quite a bit of pain, but other than that I would say I get at least 6.5 hours almost every night. Not continuous through the night, but good sleep overall.

My sleep actually became a lot more consistent immediately after the cold-turkey and reinstatement at a tiny dose. I was able to get at least 4 hours almost every night, and very few 0-2 hour nights. Enough to function, and it has improved from there. I have to watch out for things that might derail my sleep such as supplements or caffeine, but otherwise it is now pretty good, and I'm super happy to be drug free.
