Been off for 18 months from a .25 per day klonopin cold turkey and am considering reinstating then when stable do a very slow taper with a cross over to Valium anyone else done a reinstatement this far out?

Hello Downtongirl,

I don't think I would personally consider reinstatement this far out. Why are you thinking of doing this?

After putting in 18 months of recovery, I would not wish to go back and restart this process. First of all, there is no guarantee that reinstatement and another taper would be easier.

I would rather try to be patient and let my body recover on it's own time.

I think it would be one of the biggest mistakes you could ever make unless you're okay being on them the rest of your life. I really saw the biggest jump in my improvement right about that time.  I think it was at 21 months.  Mind you it wasn't good after that but now at 29 months I am really starting to have days where I can now see the light.

I would never re-instate!  As Pianogirl stated there are absolutely no guarantees it will work and IMO most likely will make matters worse. It could also be the Prozac withdrawal. I noticed quite a few BB's are on AD's or other drugs, and there is no long term studies on these drugs, who knows what problems they could be causing. Be patient with yourself and continue on with your recovery.

do you want to reinstate because your withdrawal symptoms are too debilitating because of benzodiazepine withdrawal or because of withdrawal from your anti-depressant?

No way. Like you, I cold turkeyed Klonopin, as well as other meds. It sucks. But I can't imagine anything more demoralizing and painful than starting over.

I don't understand why you're considering this?  I can't see anything positive about re-instating so far out, just to taper again?  I believe you'd have to be a serious masochist to try something like that!

I couldn't imagine going through this ever again, for me, the tapering was just too painful to contemplate going back to that hell.

Please don't re-instate!

You can't say that for sure.. I was on Bezos for 3 months and I am going on 6 weeks in acute..... I wish I could heal like you did!

I do think what I a experience is more if not all Antidepressant withdrawal....I just know that the AD withdrawal can go on for years and I just don't think I have it in me.

Downtongirl,

Think about it rationally.  If you don't think you have it in you to go through years of AD WD, why do you think you have it in you to reinstate a benzo and go back into the hells of acute that may last even longer the second time around?  You need to read more reinstatement stories before you jump into that fire pit.

I think you are crying out for support, which is understandable, not seriously considering reinstating after 18 months of healing, which is far from understandable.

please don't do it! why don't you focus more on your ad withdrawal. go very very slow with it or even stay on them longer until you are stable from benzo withdrawal.  benzos are poison, toxic and horrible drugs! you should be very proud of yourself for being 18 months clean from them! I have decided to stay on my ad until I am further into my benzo recovery. good luck to you

just think by spring you will be close to 2 years off! (only if you don't reinstate!)
