This is my first post. I hope I'm doing this correctly.  I stopped CT on May 8th. I would say the worst part is over. The headaches and insomnia were brutal but have stopped. I still have horrible muscle spasms but I've had that for 5 years (caused by the tolerance) so I can deal with that. My question is regarding my energy level. It takes everything I have to get out of bed in the morning. I feel like a teenager. I could sleep all day and still not feel refreshed. I was a runner before stopping valium. I ran 5 mornings a week but now I just can't get going. I know time will heal and I'm waiting patiently but are there any tips anyone has to increase energy? My weight is creeping up and I know that getting back into my exercise routine will help that and help my recovery but I just can hardly move sometimes.  I feel like I'm recovering from the flu.

Just goes to show how different everyone is. I'm only 5 weeks off and I'm wired. Have too much energy. Also have same muscle problems as you and can handle that. I just wish I wasn't so wired all the time. But, it's allowing me to work long hours and such.

So I'm opposite. But perhaps will have no energy later. Hope your energy comes back. Good luck!

Try to get into the shower or bathe every day as a goal.

When I don't shower, I feel like I just don't care.

Stretching, yoga helps.

My biggest issue is fatigue also. I get what you are saying.

I live in bed a lot.

Yup. Same here. Fatigue is a big issue. I haven't really figured out a way to get over that one, yet, but I do know, what NT said about showering is true...if I shower first thing, it seems to get me going and I feel refreshed and better after.

Some form of activity is important, as well. Anything is better than nothing. Sometimes we have to make ourselves do it. Someone told me something that has stuck with me for many years....Don't think about it...just do it. I, many times will think about the drudgery of doing something like say, just showering for instance and it holds me back. So, lately, I've just walked into the bathroom, not thinking about it and jumped into the shower just to get it over with. It seems to work well for me.

I also believe that it's good to have some kind of a routine, no matter what it is. Even if it's strictly laid back. Going to bed at a certain time, getting up at a certain time, not staying in bed is important, although not always possible due to being sick.

Yoga is a great idea, just the stretching alone is helpful. Be easy on yourself and go slow without expectations. Eventually, you will work your way back to a stronger you.

I have also suffered from a lot of fatigue or maybe laziness. It is one or the other. I have to force myself to do things but I can. It is hard to do get some things accomplished. It should get better with time. I also get bored so that helps me set goals.

I found for me:

There is lazy and there is I can't.

It's a fine line but I know the difference.

Just be honest with yourself.

I'm struggling with terrible fatigue as well and frequent naps as well as going to sleep early then sleeping in late. I can't push through it. If I do something that exerts myself physically my body gets so revved up that I feel like I'm back in acute withdrawal.

Great point. There is a HUGE difference.

The only reason I'm able to go to work is that despite the physical symptoms, my mind and mood is doing much better.

Thanks everyone! Just knowing that others are going through it helps so much but I'm going to definitely try the showers. My usual routine is to shower at night. I always feel better after but hadn't even thought about trying that in the morning. I'm also going to try to work my schedule where I can run in the evening. I tend to have more energy then. Thanks again everyone!

A very common pattern
