Hi all,

I've seen a couple of posts here recently where some people have had seizures. From what I have read, I thought these were extremely rare. I know it's important not to focus on the horror stories, but I seem to have worked myself up into a bit of a tizzy. I'm terrified of having a seizure, especially since I live alone.

I'm not really sure what my question is, but I guess I'm just looking for some words of comfort that anyone can offer.  :-\

Thank you!

If you're tapering slowly, there's almost no chance of having a seizure.  This is especially true if you've never had one before.

Please don't let my story scare you.   It is EXTREMELY rare for people to have seizures even when CTing.  I have no idea yet why it happened to me, although I had seizures when I was very young, which I'm sure played a role.  It will not happen to you!

Hugs,

WR

Thanks so much for the quick response, Megan. I'm taper by .125 every 2 weeks (from .75). Some people consider this to be fairly rapid, while others say it sounds about right. Confused as to whether it's a "slow" taper or not.

Thanks, NYC! I guess part of the fear is from the anxiety (which is why I was taking this med in the first place meh). I am so happy you are doing better. Sending hugs and prayers your way.  :smitten:

I understand.  It would have scared me to read also.  I don't want buddies to be afraid.  I was just a one in a million case.

Thanks for your kind thoughts, and good luck with your taper  :smitten:

Thanks, NYC. I think I used to have seizures as a young kid too. Not seizures exactly, I guess you would call them absence seizures (petit mal) where I would go very still, but only when I was very very ill wth high fever as many kids do. Haven't had anything in 30 years (I'm 34 now) so hopefully I will be okay. Fingers crossed!

Mini I think your taper is just about perfect. Put the seizure thing out of your head. I was drastically afraid of them when I went from 8mg Ativan to 5. My doctor said even with cold turkey seizures are still very rare. Not that he was advocating c/t. He wasn't but assured me I would not have a seizure. Also, if for some very very rare reason you did have one it would have happened by now. I don't believe you're at risk in the slightest. B

Thanks, barb. You are always a voice of great comfort.  :smitten:

I wish my doctor was as helpful as yours, he just smiles when I ask him questions. I think he sleeps with his eyes open when I'm talking to him
