Cravings - former smoker

Recommended Posts

Posted

I'm a former smoker (half pack habit a day), I quit this Jan, about 9 months ago. I lost my cravings very shortly into quitting, but for some reason during this taper, all I want to do is smoke.

Have any of you had a re-occurrence of your cigarette/any other cravings? Curious if it's just me!

I even tried to do it, messed up my sleep so badly ....that i had to drop this kind of pleasure for good

I'm quitting Monday but will try vaping a bit to ease the cravings. Before this taper I smoked under a pack a day. Now I'm at 2 packs so the cravings are very real. At least with vaping I'm not getting the 7000 other chemicals in my lungs. I'll be 65 so it's time to say goodbye to these cigarettes once and for all. Also, my husband switched to vaping last November and my smoking is driving him crazy. Just got the house all painted too. I can't believe how much better he looks. Apparently it's not the nicotine that makes us look crummy. It's all the other stuff in them. He also feels great. So try to let those cravings go. I wouldn't give into them. I'm dreading Monday but still I have to quit and cigs here are $14.00 a pack. Enough is enough. B

Yup. I quit shortly before starting my taper and now I'm smoking a lot. Quitting again Monday for maximum health but I'm not sure if it will stick.

Good luck R. LOL we'll both need it. And mini you just hang in there. Don't let's these drugs send you back to probably one of the worst habits/addictions of all time. Not to mention a deadly one. So hang tough! B

Thanks, Barb! It was so hard to go off so definitely don't want to get back on.  This taper is making me crave things I'd happily given up and don't even want - cigarettes, sugar, and red wine. I could kill a bottle right now hahha  :D

Good for you, I quit 9 years ago after smoking many packs a day for 30 years.

Although I quit a long time ago I had to have a lung function test a few months ago and was really worried they would tell me my lungs were fried, luckily they said my lung function was normal, Im sure lungs can get better if you stop in time. I say do it and more power to you.

LOL I could kill a six pack of bud...wine gives me heartburn but simply won't do it. Sadly, just not worth it. Well actually more like maybe 4 beers tops. I have zero tolerance to it...never have. Just as well I guess. Just don't smoke! Bad, bad, bad.  :( B

Thanks! I know it's just a matter of willpower but that's like the biggest hurdle. I wish sometimes that someone would just completely cut me off from cigs and let me flip and rage and get over it because I'd rather have an external enemy that's not myself.

Don't smoke!!!!!!! I'm so jealous that you've been off 9 months - I've been trying to quit for years and the longest I've gone is 4 months - Remember -  the first one will taste horrible! and then you will feel terrible about it but crave more - Don't do it!!! What an accomplishment to be off 9 months!!!

I still smoke and i don't find it worsens withdrawal symptoms. I actually find if i don't smoke it makes me feel much worse.
