Having difficult time post taper

[Wi...]

Recommended Posts

I finished my taper 1-1-16 but periodically would take an ativan as it was the only thing to lower my spiking bp for awhile. My bp is now under control and i have 2straight months of nothing after a one year 6-8 mg ativan daily habit. I have numb and/or electrical "patches" all over but mostly on my left hand and right foot. Whenever it feels like im wearing an "electrical helmet" on my head i know im in for a rough spell. A few times-it felt like i was in another dimension with to many symptoms to list and with my mind not comprehending my surroundings-only the discomfort. Whenever i have a day that wasnt as bad as the day before i get my hopes up as if the wd is on the downside but then BAM it comes on as rough as ever with new or different symptoms. My biggest concern is that i honestly feel like im slowly dying. Im 6ft. tall and down to 160lb and i was 190lb before this nighmare started. Im faitigued in a different way then i would be had i been fatigued from working 16 hours. This feels like im fatigued and very sick with an illness im not familiar with ie it doesnt feel like the flu or a cold. I just feel nasty. Thank God for my girlfriend because i wouldnt have made it this far without her. The fear has been unbelievable. Gaba affects so many systems in or body but mostly the mind i believe. Ive never experienced this brand of fear so irrationally. Thats the worst part for me. I cant even sleep at night. I wait til the sun rises and i can see it come thru the shades before i even close my eyes which is bizzare because i was able to sleep at the beggining of this nightmare. Anyway-i just wanted to say hey to all and read some posts for encouragement. This has been-by far!-the biggest bummer of the 57 years ive been on this planet. Good luck all.

Hi  sonoma473  Welcome to Benzobuddies

I am sorry you’re having a rough time, withdrawal symptoms are awful but they are temporary.  It can take quite a while for the CNS to recover but it will get better.  Well done on your taper, these meds should be tapered off slowly!  I can identify with some of the symptoms you describe, the fear, these drugs make you afraid, I think that is the one thing everybody gets, you will recover eventually

Congratulations on being benzo free. I think you will find some comfort communicating with those who are in the same situation as you are, I could not have gotten through it without the benzo forums.  Our members have been through all aspects of benzodiazepine use and withdrawal, and will share their experiences with you.

Please feel free to ask questions, we have many supportive and kind members here who will support you and give sound advice.  Feel free to check out the forum and post to any of our dedicated threads.

I don't know if you have read  the Ashton Manual  It is an excellent resource about these types of medication and their effect on the body.

Here are a few links useful links:

Congratulations on being benzo free.  I've experienced everything you describe and as you read posts you'll see that other members have similar symptoms.  This is the hardest thing I have ever done, too, and many days are just, well, horrific.  I am taking trazadone and seraquil for sleep and I do sleep anywhere from three to six hours a night.  It's not sound sleep and I don't like taking medication but I need some rest.  We do recover.

The link you sent me for a signature line doesnt take me to the proper page -it takes me to some older posts. How do i create a signature line without a link? Thanks!

Hi sonoma473

The link takes you to a post with information on how to add a signature.

Click on 'Profile' then 'Account Settings', Then 'Modify Profile', in the drop-down list click 'Forum Profile'. From that page, scroll down almost to the bottom and type in your info in the Signature box. Make sure and click 'Change Profile' at the bottom.

I hope this helps, if not let us know

Magrita

I completely understand about taking benzos occasionally for bp spikes.  I've done the same thing for several years; however I have resolved to stop since I now believe that the occasional doses cause "kindling," which is when each successive withdrawal becomes more painful and intense symptom-wise.  Labile (high and low spikes) bp is actually one of the withdrawal symptoms. Glad you have managed to get your bp under control.
