Your reasons for joining BenzoBuddies (withdrawal support; taper advice; information; etc.);

- Need some advice on tapering

The type of benzodiazepine (or z-drug) you take or have taken;

- Xanax, klonopin, and rarely temazepam... have taken others such as ativan and valium but not long term

For how long you have been taking benzodiazepines;

- I'd say for about a year and 3 months now

Your present dose;

- Just cut from 3mg a day to 2mg of klonopin

The size (dose) of the individual pills you use;

- 1mg

If you have started or finished your taper;

- Started about 5 days ago

And anything else you feel would be useful for those wishing to reply to your introduction.

- This is probably my 4th time trying to taper off seriously... I managed to get to .5mg of klonopin a day before but after going to 0 I wasn't even able to function. Staying on benzos is ruining my life @ school and such, but getting off them is even worse.

Hello ahhicantpickaname :hug:  Welcome to BenzoBuddies!.

You can do this!  It’s not easy tapering off these drugs but you will be successful this time. You will get a lot of support from people who know what you’re going through.  The best way to minimize withdrawal symptoms is a slow and careful taper. The rule of thumb is to taper no more than 5-10% every 10-14 days.  This can be adjusted based on how you feel.

We have a great bunch of people here, our members have been through all aspects of benzodiazepine use and withdrawal, and will share their experiences with you.

I would suggest that you read the Ashton Manual, an excellent resource about these types of drugs and how to withdraw. It was written by an expert in the field.

I'll leave you a few links:

The Ashton Manual

General Taper Plans

If you would be so kind as to add a signature (history of meds/doses etc) it will help members give you relevant advice this link will show you how to ”Create a signature”

Welcome aboard

Hi. Welcome.

If you'd like to be successful getting off K, first thing I would do is heed a lesser percentage cut. Your initial cut from 3 to 2 mg is a 33%. A rule of thumb per Ashton method, even if you are not using V as she does, is 5-10%. I would hold at this dose for longer than the typical 10-14 days before cutting again. If you don't have a .001 gram scale to use for accuracy of measuring doses I'd get one from amazon. After you have these in hand, along with razor, file and tweezers, others can help you with the math and procedure.

Best to you!

Late reply, but it was actually my psychiatrist who chose to cut my dosage from 3mg to 2... not a good time. Back on my 3mg a day right now, because I couldn't function at that point.
