Guest [Le...]
A phrase I've seen before, typically referring to diazepam and Librium. Does this make any sense ?? In my view, it doesn't. But then I wonder how people come up with that ... I'd love to see that in use - do you have a reference for this? It makes no sense, as far as I can see - I never met a benzo that tapered itself. [Di...]
At one time, I tapered from Valium in one week (after 8 weeks of 5mg following neck surgery). My doc said I shouldn't have had any w/d because I tapered myself off of it. Right.
[li...]
Actually that came up in a 'chat' with a neurologist who had some affinity for 'addiction medicine'. But I just looked online for a source, and here is one (though not specifically related to benzos): http://www.aafp.org/afp/1999/0915/p1175.html A bit hard to find, but it must be in there because I googled for the phrase. Maybe not the best source (!): http://www.jailmedicine.com/reader-question-xanax-withdrawal/ 'The longer acting benzos have the benefit of self-tapering, as I will discuss later.' Aha, thanks - the reference is to Valium remaining in the bloodstream for a long time - implying that a long half-life is the same as tapering, when it is of course not that simple. [2t...]
I think the theory is sound but the time frame (1/2 life) is not. It will be eliminated from the body over a much too shorter time frame
[Ma...]
I think thats pure nonsense. A good thought from doctors but in reality just NOT THE REALITY.
