more then four months out was doing well as far as my physical symptoms

I had a few bad weeks of anxiety at bed time one night I was suffering an awful anxiety attack and I took half of a .25 of Xanax it did the trick to my suprise. I promised myself I wouldn't do it again but later in the week I did the exact same. I then a week later was in traffic and that is one of my biggest trigger so I took.25 on the way to my destination and then half of a .25 on the way home.  My withdrawl symptoms have come back even with those little amounts.  Not as severe but I recognize that they are. Some ashamed. Is it normal for them to return even with little amounts.

Hello Lillyflower,

Don't be ashamed but learn something from this experience.  Rescue doses can be tricky. One can lead to another and another and it's possible to find yourself back on the benzo bus.  You'll see these symptoms ease up and if were me I would try to find ways to deal with anxiety and panic.

When I had pretty massive panic and anxiety during withdrawal, I would use a lot of self talk, especially when driving. I would also try to float around the anxiety and just let it be there knowing that it can't hurt me.  I pictured my self floating on top of a wave over the anxiety.  Deep belly breathing was also a go to technique for me.

Don't beat yourself up about this, many have done the same thing.  Take care of yourself and look forward towards wellness.

Thank you all

I do feel bad about myself because I feel like I folded

I was just suprised after a few small doses brought back some of the symptoms I was so relieved to get rid of.  It def had brought back some if the pin prick nerve pain and some sensitivity I had been dealing with not as severe but def am having a bought with it again thank you all, I hope I learned my lesson panic is such a cruel punishment ♥️

wow timmy really???? read your own comments - your hole taking rescue doses thing brought you back to valium - so please don't tell others that it is ok "unless you reinstate for five days or so".. that is not a reliable benchmark and in your case only the proof that it does not work like you said.

Hi Lillyflower, Of course many buddies use rescue doses sometimes and thats nothing to be ashamed for, but if you are a person who opens a door with allowing this to yourself, like it seems to be, this can be dangerous. Don't bring yourself back into acute or to tolerance.

You did it found out that it is not a good idea, now go on and stay away from the pills. You might throw them away...

hugs!!

just a day or two of rescue doses can greatly set someone back. 5 days worth could be 15 to 20 doses. Yikes!

Timmyp - what are you doing, don't encourage people to take more rescue doses.

Liillyflower - You cannot take back what you did because its done. I know how getting stuck in traffic or anything stressful can affect u. I would probably not want to take anymore because for me it would be to dangerous to just start back.  I could never face this again. Also the brain damage from it sucks too. Get off as fast as you can, if I knew that several years ago I could have stopped, but I was taking them everyday prescribed for 15 years. My doctor never warned me this kind of damage would happen.

Yes it is and don't let anybody tell you different. I threw away 10 month of progress back in 2013 from 2 .25 of Xanax. in a 5 day period. That was before I understood what was going on, but believe me I did after that. Maybe it wont effect everyone but if your one of the unlucky ones, look out, and I've  seen very few people here that it didn't back fire on.

I would trash what you have left and move on. Its to temping as you know now. You have to stay off 100% for this to work.

I absolutely second the advice of throwing out whatever stash you have left.  Under no circumstances would I even take a fraction of a benzo after fully quitting for a few months, no matter what.  I kept a full bottle of Xanax in my drawer up until a month ago, have no idea why.  Even then I was still never tempted to take one.  I'd think about it and wonder, wonder if a tiny bit would help me get through a day of work or whatever other trouble I had, but I never was temped to take one.

And believe me, I hear you on the driving.  Not sure how I made it to work and back.  It was, hands down, one of the most difficult things I've had to do that was seemingly so simple.  The other was showering and blow drying my hair (among other things).  Such awful anxiety and panic.

All this to say, I get why you would take a small amount of a rescue dose.  It's just that...we need rescuing.  Any help at all to end the suffering.  But it won't end it.  In my honest opinion, it will only increase it...and you don't want that.  Stop now before you take anymore and just keep going.  There is no way around the anxiety.  Except deep breaths and limiting all you can.  You have to accept that you'll have anxiety attacks.  Acceptance is key. And no, I would not listen to the "rescue doses do no harm unless you reinstate for 5 days or so."  That is BS, and everyone is different.  Why take that chance?
