[Ce...]
Great question! I asked my pdoc the same thing, but she had no answer for me. Hope our friends here can help us out on this. I don't get it! Isn't anxiety recognized? And why in this day and age can they not come up with a non-addictive alternative?
[Da...]
Sometimes people take buspar or paxil but I found those not to work on me. Doctors wanted me to continue you taking it saying it takes several weeks to be successful but I tried it over that period of time and still found it does not work on me. It must work on some people though. Maybe you guys could try it.
[Kg...]
TimmyP studies have shown 2 things that work for anxiety: The first is exercise - it is better than most drugs in releasing the positive chemicals that address anxiety. The other is mindfulness meditation/yoga. The NY Times just had an article in the science section about why exercise is one of the 'best drugs' out there. As for mindfulness many of your fellow buddies have found that it helps us greatly both in our tapers and to address underlying issues. It does work. I know you were asking about a pill but these work forever and are good for us.

[Ma...]
Oh Timmy, are you seeking a new drug, again? As I asked in your other post, you are taking 2 ADs, right? If that is not enough.. I have suffered about half of my life of anxiety and panic. I can assure you that no drug could help me. What helped was anything I did with my body (exercise, just walk, just breathe) and meditational strategies. And radical acceptance. Your system is going crazy because of all the on-off with different medication. I think the Valium is now fading out of your body, of course anxiety is about to come.. As you can read in many posts here, people can cope with panic and fear without drugs. MArigold
[Ju...]
Timmy, there's a category full of great info on here, Alternative Therapies & Supplements, click on HOME, then scroll down. Inositol, Magnesium, GABA supplements, etc., you gotta find out if you're deficient in some vitamin/Amino acid/Omega 3's/, It's all CHEAP stuff from the vitamin shops or buy it online. But do the reading first. As far as NON-BENZO prescriptions for anxiety, They tried Remeron, Seroquel, Atarax,GAbapentin, Cymbalta, Lexapro, Celexa, zoloft, none of those even touched my anxiety. Some people have luck with those. Good luck Timmy, J-man

[Pi...]
Some anti depressants and buspar. I've tried both. Paxil made me paranoid. Buspar felt like a sugar pill but maybe I didn't give it enough time. Right now" I'm using a mix of knowing my limits and light exercise and anti anxiety videos to cope. I wish there was a magi pill too. I had one. Mine was called Ativan. But it's evil! And only works for so long.
[Pi...]
Be careful with cannabis/ marijuana. Sometimes it can increase anxiety. I quit years ago when it started causing panic attacks. I know a lot of people who quit for the same reason. Or just use a little and see how it feels.

[Vm...]
After my experiences with medications of all sorts.....from antidepressants to antipsychotics to benzos.....I realized the best medication is laughter, taking up hobbies, exercise and a good diet. I know it sounds cliché but it is so true. Once I am completely off my meds, I will never go back. Just be around people you care about and have a good time with and take up different hobbies. Again, I always say, laughter is the best medicine! Endorphins are natural chemicals.....much better than man made chemicals that make you go bonkers coming off! [sa...]
I'm taking passion flower and it's great. It does act on GABA receptors, though. I do exercise everyday and try to eat balanced meals. My problem is I'm autistic and obsessive, and since all my problems are people close to me I can't stop obsessing about problems. I find that I need a bit of something to keep anxiety down. Then I can do relaxation techniques and relaxing hobbies. Otherwise I just can't focus on anything, and pace around agitated and feeling down. [ra...]
I take Seroquel in tiny doses and it helps a LOT. Because I'm used to it I take 75 or 100 mg at night. I would'nt sleep without it. But in the daytime I sometimes take 6 or 7 mg: it calms things down. Notice that at these levels Seroquel doesn't act as an antipsychotic but as an antihistaminique. As such it doesn't mess with the Gaba receptors, just the H1 receptor (to sleep). I don't have any side effects; if I take some in the daytime I may feel some drowsiness. [co...]
Just checked again and he states chamomile should be cycled on and off, long term use can lead to down regulation of gaba receptors. Also for lemon balm cycling on/off is recommended just to be safe.
[At...]
I drink multi cups of Chamomile daily and then before bed I drink either Chamomile Lavender, Lemonbalm, Passionower, or Kava. It's been working so far (for me), so I'm sticking with it. It's all I have! Well the teas and my aminos. Some people swear by the teas. I assuming that these studies are about as accurate as the med studies. Not one med fits all either. We shall see.
