Gabapentin for brain zaps?

[Vi...]

Recommended Posts

My Neurologist prescribed 600mg of gabapentin to assist me in stopping severe, debilitating brain zaps. However, even 200 mg makes me feel like a zombie and appears to be a difficult drug to taper off from.. My Internist suggested Nortryptilene or Zoloft but that too does not sit well with me.

I am currently taking 3mg of valium daily but this is not ceasing the severity and frequency of the brain zaps. I gave thought to trying snother benzo such as zanax bit realize the consequences of taking this drug.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

I used gabapentin, but not for brain zaps.  It could affect my clarify a bit - kind of like having a couple of beers in me.  Actually, it was not all that unpleasant for me.  Mostly, it improved my sleep.  I had very little difficulty withdrawing from it, but some folks have had a tough time.  I only used 300 mg most of the time (and not more than 600 mg).  Most of those people who have had difficulty withdrawing took a LOT more than you're taking.  If it helps with the zaps, it may be worth a little zombie-ism???  As with all meds, use as small an amount as possible to alleviate the symptom.
