New Member-- Klonopin Withdrawals

[ov...]

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I was on Klonopin for 6 yrs. My doc put me on this med as a stress reliever, very huge mistake!!! I started with a dose of .5mg a day & over the years, was increased to 1mg (3X) a day. After my doc realized the dosage & length she's had me on this med, she refused to further prescribe this med to me & told me to get professional help. Instead of trying to find a doc who'd be willing to help me get off of this, I decided to do it on my own by tapering over the course of 2 months & I've been off of Klonopin for 2 1/2 weeks. It's a huge relief being off of this but the withdrawals are so horrific. I don't want to get back on this med after going through the worst withdrawals but I also wonder if they're real or if it's all in my mind. Any insight, encouragement, success stories, etc. would be appreciated. Thank you!

Hi  :) Welcome to BenzoBuddies!

Congrats on being benzodiazepine free. That is a pretty rapid taper from such a high dose. Symptoms when stopped too rapidly at times can be severe. At 2.5 weeks in you are still in the acute phase this is when symptoms are their very worst. This phase typically lasts about a month with some noticeable improvement felt after. However, it can take some months to heal.
