What helps you keep going during the long months of recovery? I like the coloring books by Joanna Basford. Relaxing, creative and when I am done with a page I feel like I have accomplished something.

I been doing a lot of word searches and just started doing puzzles they are a great distraction and help time pass.

My back of tricks (otherwise known as my distraction tools) included; puzzles, Scrabble, crosswords, reading, watching lighthearted movies and reading Success Stories.  When things were really rough I used these things day and night.

I crochet hats and scarfs and booties. If somebody comes to my place, they leave with a hat and scarf.

Maybe I should sell them :) :)

Music Music Recovery lists of Music. I'm learning to stay away from this crazy US election because I'm defiant and it can give me anxiety.  I killed off facebook. Oh yes I need to remember that JOB had it worse.  May God Bless you and me.

Meditation and exercise. As much of both as possible.

Also, I started my taper by repossessing my house, which I had rented out for four years. The former tenants were (still are I assume) chronic alcoholics and completely trashed it. So, I've had a lot of work to do on it. I think back now to January 1 and all the things that aligned to really push me into the abyss. It's been very stressful but now I look around me and have a beautiful home, I'm benzo-free, healthy, and it gives me great comfort.

I stay away from anything that can potentially give me stress, like bad news (it's hard to avoid), Facebook (social media contributes to depression and anxiety), and so forth. My family bums me out, so sadly I have to limit exposure to them as well.

Praying is good. I'm a Buddhist so I try to follow my spiritual practice as often as possible.

I forgot another thing I did once past the very acute stage, I started riding my bicycle.  I ended up riding almost every day, it really helped me to be out in nature and it was my form of meditation.

Hi there...if any of  you are interested in learning how to crochet , go to UTUBE and type crochet. A lot of tutorials there and they teach you step by step. A lot of fun. When I crochet it keeps my mind focus in what Im doing and forget about everything else.

    Good vibes your way,

Glama
