I have two words for you. NMDA antagonists. Right now, you are in the active acute phase of withdrawal. A whole lot of things are happening in your body right now and quite a few of them are probably not good. Here is a rather scientific overview of what some of those things are:

http://www.benzobuddies.org/forum/index.php?topic=85498.msg1420289#msg1420289

According to the theoretical suggestions of the study, you want to do things at the moment that will prevent the calcium and glutamate in your system from rampaging across your neurons and by extension your Central Nervous system. Here are the essential findings of the study as discussed by Perserverance with the findings most relevant to you in bold:

"In summary, their findings showed:

  1) Administration of the AMPA receptor antagonists GYKI 52466 or NBQX during the initial silent phase prevented or reduced withdrawal symptoms, but it did not work during the active phase.

  2) Blockade of NMDA receptors by administering the NMDA antagonist CPP during the active phase eliminated withdrawal symptoms, but it did not work during the silent phase.

  3) They could prevent tolerance and dependence from developing by concomitant administration of diazepam and the NMDA antagonist CPP."

You may now be wondering, "hey that's great so where do I get some NMDA antagonists...does anybody just have some laying around."

Unfortunately, I don't know how you would get a hold of the NMDA antagonist noted in the study. However, there are other things that act as NMDA antagonists that are available. Here is the wikipedia entry for NMDA antagonists:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NMDA_receptor_antagonist

Personally, if I could do my CT all over again, I wouldn't  ;) lol.  However, if I had to, I would load up on magnesium (NMDA antagonist) and ferulic acid (antioxidant to prevent oxidative stress of receptors and suppresses glutamate release). I don't know if magnesium would act as powerfully as the NMDA antagonist in the study but it the best and safest thing that I am aware that is available. As far as dosing goes for this, I would ( in my hypothetical redo of my own CT ) probably go for magnesium up to bowel tolerance ( too much dietary magnesium gives you diarrhea  which is mother nature's nice way of preventing magnesium overdose in the short term) and ferulic acid up to 1000 miligrams.

As far as your situation goes, I would also remind yourself that while this is a bit of a Russian Roulette situation, the odds are that you will not experience a traumatic withdrawal. Most people do not experience horrific withdrawals that last months or years on end. So to quote  that famous World War 2 poster: Keep Calm and Cary on. Good Luck.

Sometimes beta blockers or anti depressants can help some, and note I said some, but they can be equally difficult to get off. Those two are most likely to help with insomnia or mild anxiety. They don't do much for the majority of symptoms.

The beta blockers would also help treat heart palpitations which can occur during the process though you would have to taper off the beta blocker as well. From my earlier post, I forgot to mention that ferulic acid is an nmda antagonist as well. By the way, what symptoms are you having?

you are pretty early into your withdrawal  to experience a window

they usually begin to appear until after the acute phase of withdrawal.

Hi Fading Places, I don't know of any meds that would help you. I am 6 months off cold turkey as well from 2-3mg per day of Xanax. It has been THE HARDEST THING I HAVE EVER DONE. I never dreamed I could feel this way but here I am.

Myself, I get windows sometimes but I would say few and far between. I also have waves where I feel like I have been beaten. I never dreamed this would be so hard. But I want to stay clean and get through this. Keep the faith and lets both know that someday we will wake up and feel better.

One recent thing I've found helpful is cold showers. Especially before going to bed. Relaxes my body.

Hi fading places, you are really early into this and you are in the acute phase of withdrawal. I went CT last November. When I was in the acute phase I truly wanted to die both figuratively and literally. I thought I would not survive it.  I could only sleep for maybe 30min - 1hr per day. I could not eat and all I could drink was water. I started falling down all the time. I fell down in the kitchen, in the bathroom, down the steps and into my glass top coffee table and I had to get 16 stitches.

So here I am six months later. Thank goodness the worst of those symptoms went away. I still have a lot of nasty symptoms like anxiety, depression, fatigue. But I am getting abt 4-6 hours of sleep per day. I am eating one good meal per day. I have not fallen down probably since January. So give it some time and you should start to see some relief. If I had not seen any of the symptoms get better I probably not have made it this far.

Davis how long have you been on this stuff?

Also you need experience input!  This stuff is dead!y.  It is only good for a very short time like a week  or two.

Your body becomes addicted.  When you try to stop it's u real you think your losing it.  Come on this site we pretty much got the picture.  The doctors are undertrained!  Hang in!

When I started in with bouts of the shakes and tremors the Dr. gave me an adrenaline blocker called Clonidine.

When people are suddenly incarcerated with an addiction they give them tablets or patches.

Davis...hoping your getting the answers you need!  I could not go cold turkey.  Symptoms didn't let up!!  You do not want to knock yourself out.  You want to be able to function somewhat.  Check out threads here that address cold turkey etc.  You will end up with more knowledge and plans.  It will be ok
