Wife of a Benzo Buddy

My husband is currently suffering from Klonopin w/d, past the acute phase, exactly where, we are not sure. I also used to take Klonopin and was on a 0.5mg TID regimen. For some bizarre reason, I had no w/d sx , but I primarily used it prn.

My hubby has gone through 2 hospitalizations now, and on his second partial hospitalization. The first one did the severe damage with a cold-turkey approach. He had been taking Klons for 17 years and they just stopped it. I'm very angry at this stage, that they did that, knowing what I know now. I am on this site, trying to find a way to help him more than I have been able to in the past 3 months. I had a recent panic attack, which really helped me truly "see" what he's going through, but I only suffered for a few hours. I hope you all will allow me into the group so I can find some way to help him.

Thank you,

JenJen

Hi JenJen  Welcome to Benzobuddies

We would love to provide information for you to help your husband, thank you for supporting him.    Cold turkey/detox is never recommended and can be brutal.  Any symptoms your husband is experiencing will be temporary, but it does take quite some time for the CNS to recover.

I will put a link to the Ashton Manual, it is a definitive resource about these medications. It also discusses the effects these types of medications have on the body.

Professor Ashtons Manual

We do have a dedicated board for those people who have done a cold turkey or rapid withdrawal.

Cold Turkey Detox & Rapid Withdrawal Board

Here is link to the Post withdrawal support Post withdrawal recovery support board

You need support also: Family Members / Partners Support Thread

Please feel free to ask questions, members can respond with the best information if they know your husbands medication history so I will ask you to create a signature line listing the medication and dose.  Here are the directions to do that: ”Create a signature”

Welcome aboard

I applaud any partner/spouse/friend etc. who joins BB to help the person they care about. It's not an easy road for either the sufferer, or supporter-but BB has lots of information and encouragement for both that makes the process much more bearable. Tour the site to check out what is most relevant to you and yours, and then read/post questions and concerns. Best of luck with your husband's recovery !

Just wanted to share what I know about glysine, which is an amino acid.  It is very helpful for ameliorating the affects of drug withdrawal, and helps the body create serotonin which helps relieve anxiety snd panic attacks.  3 to 4 1000 mg capsules daily or more.  Hope this helps.
