I feel worse when I take my ativan

If I'm having a decent day I feel terrible after I take my Ativan. It's really noticeable.  It is causing anxiety and other related anxiety type symptoms. I just thought I was getting waves at the same time each night. But I fell asleep twice and forgot to take my pill and took it when I remembered the next morning. About 20 minutes later anxiety, racing heart, felt "bad". I want to just stop taking it but I am afraid of what will happen. I wish I could just take it as needed but I guess it doesn't work for me any more anyway. It seems the meds have been making me feel worse for a while but since I take it close to bedtime I just realized how bad. I think I evade feeling most of the symptoms by going to bed after taking it. Advice??

Whoa, this is related to a post I just made – similar experience!

Was too sick to put benzos in my body and today I'm better instead of worse.

Been on Ativan 2 mg for 25 years for a few weeks close to 3 mg.  Now on 1.5 mg or 1.4 mg.  Lost everything and also have bad OCD.  The Ativan helped with the anxiety. Please try your best to get off it.  It has ruined me and I should have realized it.  Scraping a little piece off each day.  Hoping I survive and fear homelessness and addiction.  I only sleep 2 or 3 hours a night for almost 2 months.  I sometimes shake.  It's poison.  Best of luck in your tapering off of it.

I hope it works out for you. I have never taken Ativan but I think it is just the worst out there. Good luck to you! You've been on it for quite a spell............

Thank you. A while ago I mistakenly cut too much . I felt better than I have since I can remember for about 12 days. Then very serious cog fog started. I could barely operate my computer program at work. I fixed my cut to what it should have been and my brain came back in about a week. I know c/t  is very bad. I just wish I could take it as needed and eventually not need it.  Ugh, this sucks.

This is getting worse. The past 4 doses I go from feeling human to fast heart, anxiety, and waves of black depression. It is all lifting before my next dose then starts within 20 - 30 of taking the pill. Im also getting little singular itchy bumps after taking it. Hives?  I know stopping suddenly is bad. At .39 mg I take about half at around 4pm give or take an the rest at bedtime. So even the small dose is making me ill. Cripes  why is this so complicated? ?

Also, if I was to stop, what is the timeframe for reinstating if things go south?

Within two weeks.

Because Ativan really sucks. I'd rather be on three other benzos than that piece of crap.

Once you hit tolerance withdrawal, 'as needed' no longer works.

You need more and more and more. So the only way out is to

accept that tapering slowly will free you of benzos eventually,

and that it will not be a fun ride.
