Please let me know if you have I high pulse like me!

Hi buddies,

I brought this up several weeks ago and didt get much feedback.  I'm currently 8 months and 1 week off of clonazepam.  My resting heart rate averages about 95.  My blood pressure is normal, but higher than usual.  I worry about my heart as I made the mistake of reading something about fast heartbeats linked to early death.  Not trying to worry any of you, but my goodness, is 8 months of this a cause for alarming concern?  I've seen several docs for my withdrawal symptoms and they all don't act overly concerned.  Maybe I should schedule with a cardiologist, but I wonder what they can possibly do other than give me bad news.  I already have a prescription for a beta blocker that does nothing for my heartbeat (just lowers my blood pressure).  Seems that I'm stuck this way for who knows how long and I just need to feel less alone with this symptom.  So, please, if you've had a fast heartbeat all throughout withdrawal, can you let me know how bad it has been for you?

Btw, I know I don't have POTS.  Just a constant rapid pulse that speeds up to over 100 when I'm trying to sleep and stays around 95 during the day.

I had the rapid heart beat thing for awhile and it did eventually go away. You have to be careful not to compare your special temporary situation of benzo withdrawal to people who have chronically high heart rates due to physical issues. As a number of people have noted, if you didn't have it before benzo withdrawal, you are very likely not to have it after you have healed. If you fall into that category, your heart rate will likely drop to a more normal rate in the not too distant future. As far as your heart rate goes in general, 60-100 beats per minute is a relatively normal range for a resting heart rate. Your heart is a very strong muscle that beats approximately 100,000 times a day. It can take 95 heart beats a minute for several more months without breaking a sweat. If you do feel others things like chest pain, shortness of breath, heaviness in the chest ( i.e. an elephant is sitting on my chest ), etc., then you do need to get evaluated by a medical professional.

Thank you for your thoughts on this.  I also have burning skin and have noticed in the last 2 weeks that my heart burns now as well.  That is what prompted me to do a little more research.  It doesn't hurt, I'm just growing concerned.  I would just feel better knowing that many others had this same thing for a lengthy period of time and it cleared up.  I don't seem to be finding many others complaining of this. When they do, they mention 70-80 beats per minute which is well under mine.  My heart rate was low 60's before clonazepam.

Thanks.  Starting to have burning lately too in my heart area with a constant sharp sensation in the back of my left shoulder... Heart related? Just hate this symptom.  Not as bad as no sleep, but the constant worrying about a stroke or heart attack has me on edge.  If this burning continues, I'll just schedule an echocardiogram to put my mind at ease.  So tired of doctor appointments!  I've had about 20 since withdrawal started... Another 10+ while I was on clonazepam. That is more appointments than I had my 34 years before this drug ruined me!

I had it and my ekg changed too! What the heck doesn't this whdrawal do?  It turned out to be a "normal" change but it led to all the tests and worrying. I had everything you had.  Pain, tightness, palps, etc... It recently started to go down into the 70's and 80's but now it's in the 60's. I attribute the recent lower rate to me taking a small dose of propranolol to try and prevent migraines.

Drew28,

Wow, so you had this for nearly 2 years?  I also have propanolol that I take very rarely.  It was given to me to help with the Hypnic jerks I get.  Last night was a hellish one with constant spasms so I took 40mg propanolol.  Did nothing for the jerks OR my pulse!  Just crazy!

By any chance, did you also get cortisol surges at night with your high pulse? My pulse speeds up with them.  I also have to constantly pee on my bad nights of surges.  I'm so exhausted!

Yup.  I'm still susceptible to bouts of palps if I over do things. I still can't really exercise which drives me crazy.  My mental stuff is almost all gone but I feel trapped in a body that doesn't want me doing much. I know it will go though.

I've had cortisol surges really bad until about 15 months or so.  Maybe longer.

Drew,

What were your surges like?  Did they ever involve a muscle jerk or just a rush to your heart?  Unfortunately, I get a mix of everything.  Last night it was spasms in my legs over and over and jolts to my heart. I pray this leaves by 15 months!  Thanks for letting me know that!

They varied. I've had almost everything but seizures.  It's all normal. Just try and go with the crap as best you can.

My surges were the rush to the brain depression. I couldn't stop it.  Straight negativity. Also the muscle Jerk happened when falling asleep. It's called hyping jerk. lol it up  Harmless but scary.  My worst symptom now is deep depression.

Thanks drew!

Thanks tassie!  Ill look for that video.

Timmy,

I'm happy that your jerks have eased up.  I know they are technically harmless, but for me, they are my #1 source of no sleep and depression.  These two things aren't harmless, therefore it's hard for me to try and ignore them.  I've dealt with them for over a year now and I'm ready to jump out of my skin.  I would gladly trade this nonsense for any other other physical wd symptom! Glad you are doing better.
