last cuts are TOO SMALL from 1/4 mg Lorazepam!

I'm at 1/4 mg Ativan( 1/2 of a half mg pill), and it appears the remaining cuts I want to make will be very difficult with the pill cutter.

Per advice of a few of you, I will take the 1/4 mg, place in water, but I have a few questions

1. Anybody against this method?  why?

2. Do you crush the pill to dust before placing in water?

3.  If I place a half pill (1/4 mg), in water.... and if I plan on taking 3/4 of that half a pill,

I imagine a simply drink 3/4 of the water in the cup....right?

4. Can I save the water for the next day dose?

5. Any other tips/advice are appreciated!

It is NOT water soluble!  But...it is soluble in a tiny amount of either alcohol (vodka), or propylene glycol.  (These are the same solvents used in pharma-grade Rx liquid lorazepam)  Once dissolved in either of these solvents, it can then be further diluted with water.  And this solution will be stable and non-perishable, and can be stored for several days, even a couple of weeks.

1. I'm not against it, but some people find that moving from solid to liquid requires a small up-dose.  Water isn't the ideal liquid, but if you shake it hard and use the suspension quickly, it should work.  Dissolving it into a little alcohol or propylene glycol helps to get it more evenly distributed.  Personally, I'd take it in a small amount of 50% alcohol (or PG) - it's moderately soluble in alcohol concentrations of 50% or more.  However, some people dilute it with much more water.

2. Crushing would be good.

3. Yes

4. Opinions vary.  Ativan is insoluble in water; it's also essentially insoluble in 90% water (10% alcohol).  So it will settle out upon standing.  You'll need to thoroughly agitate it back into a suspension.

5.  You could also crush and weigh powder (then simply take it like you would any pill).  Requires a scale, but it only costs ~$20.

Hmm, so once you put it in vodka, than water, you divide it by the amount you want to take. in other words 1/4th of all the liquid = 1/4 does?  thanks for your response!

crushing and weighing powder.  It's such a micro small amount ... what kid of a scale can measure that, and where can I get one for $20?  thanks so much for your reply

You can pick up a milligram scale from Amazon (Gemini-20).  Use it on a solid surface, away from air drafts.  It should be accurate enough.

  Yes, that's correct.

If you can locate a compounding pharmacy near you and if your doctor is willing to send prescriptions to that pharmacy for each dose reduction, this could also be a solution for you.  This is the method I have been using for my Lorazepam taper and it has been working well.  No measuring, no weighing, no dissolving, no hassle.

Hi. I've read benzos grab onto fat molecules so placing the crushed 1/4 in full fat milk overnight would work. If you drink milk.

I'm dry cutting lorazepam right now from 2-3mg (1mg pills) a day to 1.5 mg evenly timed 3 x a day...I will use the milk method for my last few tapers probably.

So happy for you to be at 1/4!

Good luck! Peace. ;D
