Deciding how small to cut and how long to hold

One question I have is why some people seem to tolerate making fairly big cuts fairly quickly and others seem to need to make small cuts and go so much more slowly. Why is that?

So, what is a good way to determine an appropriate size of cut to make and how long to wait before making the next cut? It would help me to hear about this in some detail, as I hear a lot of good suggestions in replies to my questions but not always with enough detail for me to fully understand the approach.  And what is the difference between making daily cuts and making more infrequent cuts? What is the reasoning behind both approaches?

Lastly, is it possible to do some sort of titration that is not cumbersome and that does not involve using milk, as I am lactose intolerant?  Is it possible for example to use liquid Valium and dilute it to make cuts less than 1 mg of Valium, for example? Thanks!

In answer to your first para, everyone is differenent, and take different times to heal, and they all have individual diets, lifestyles, use different supplements, take other meds, loads of factors.

I had this decision tonight to determine the size of my cut.

I divided my dose by ten, because they say 5 - 10% cuts a month.

As I'm doing a daily cut I then divided it by 28

This seemed a big cut for my personal circumstances, so I chose half of that amount as a test cut.

I will use this cut, and if three weeks go by, and I feel no more new symptoms or worsening of old ones, i will increase, and the reverse, if the worst happens.

I just don't do cut-and-hold tapers, as they did not suit me, so daily will always be my answer when the question of how often to cut comes up.

If symptoms worsen, go back to the dose you last felt good at, or take the number of days your symptom lag time lasts and go back to the dose you were on that day, and reduce your cut.

If you feel fine after any cut, once your personal symptom lag time has elapsed, you can increase your cut, daily titration works best that way, training the gaba receptors in a really close way.

The reason people choose different cutting methods is down to personal choice. Personally, I wished I had done daily cuts right from the start of my taper, and even when I heard of them, I was too scared to do anything about it until i'd ashton tapered down from 15mg to 3.5mg.

Menopause came and complicated my taper, a good friend on here suggested that to me, as I was pretty young but it was true, and once on the right hrt, using the daily taper, I sailed off valium with no symptoms at the end.

The only reason I am back on valilum, is because I have always had low moods, been addicted to one drug or other to lift my mood. Zopiclone was what got me into trouble, and I crossed over to vally for easier withdrawal journey downwards.

I hope that I have given enough detail, but if you can specify what you want more detail in I will try my best.

I only chose doing the cut and hold because I couldn't wrap my brain around doing it any other way. I want off... I picked weighing it on a scale. I dont have many great days but I am close to being done with it.... Thank God

Scared of the other side but excited to think that I may start feeling better.

My sxs are weakness, shakiness, light headedness when getting up and brain fog. I figure it could be worse, I could be a lot sicker.

Hi. I think we choose Valium bc of how it builds up and slowly leaves our bodies, making it easier, for some, to taper. I have done the simplist thing for me- cut & hold- specifically, cut .25mg & hold 5 weeks. When I was just starting, I was able to cut .5mg every 2 weeks. I found info by Dr Reg Peart online, & followed his advice & also BBs here. I have felt OK to great the whole way down. But, it has taken me a long time,I have time- I don't concern myself with it-so I just carry on, make my cuts, hold, & feel well. Good luck to you!  :)
