[Da...]
I have been tapering from Valium now for 11 months. Luckily I am retired, so this makes the bad times easier. I just retreat to comfy places at home. But I am getting more and more frustrated with setting up activities that are interesting and give me purpose, but also allow me flexibility to bow out when I feel terrible. I am involved in music, gardening, teaching ESL, volunteering at the library and try do do as many social and cultural activities with friends and family as possible. There are more substantial activities I would like to do like move, get a part time job, travel, takes classes, but those need to wait until I feel better. Anybody have any good activities to suggest for the good times that allow flexibility? I like more intellectual and cultural activities that keep me involved with people. I also like to help people, as I was a school psychologist for 32 years.
[cr...]
I have the same frustration. So hard to find things to do that are flexible. So many people don't understand that you may not be able to make it each time. Cross
[sh...]
I am in the exact same place as you. Also, I am also selling house and moving. For the first time today, I seriously began contemplating looking for a job in my new state. I am totally confused as to what I want to do and how to use my skills. I am a retired school administrator. It feels really great to feel almost ready, but scary at the same time. I have lost so much confidence as a result of this process. You sound like you have a lot of great activities you are involved in. I played a lot of video games, watched tv, tried to read. I am just getting back to reading. Also tried to meet with old friends but not talk about wd. I am beginning to go stir crazy. Thank God, I am really not suffering now, just clearing up the rough edges. Hope you find some good activities and get back to your life quickly.
[Tr...]
I don't know how it is in your area but Meetup.org usually has all sorts of clubs and events that cater to different interests. I've found many things to do through that site and most of them are organized so that they happen regularly but don't require you to go all the time. Cooking is a fun one, cause when you are done you share with other people. I've definitely been cooking a lot during withdrawal. A nice thing about cooking too is that you can stop and put stuff in the fridge and finish it later. Have you thought of taking an online class? They are very flexible. Here's a few other ideas: reading, book clubs (in person or online), language exchange, yoga class, meditation class and going to a spa for massage. [Da...]
Thanks for the good ideas will keep greencup. I will keep in mind! Unfortunately I hate to cook! I like to be out doing stuff with people and do manage a lot when I feel well. It's just hard finding activities that don't require commitments! I am so tired of having this taper control my life and have lots I want to do!
