A New Life

I dont know where to begin with, like most of you, I found benzobuddies after stumbling on the internet for months, trying to find what was wrong with me. It all started last year when I starting taking benzos without prescription for insomnia. I had no clue about these drugs except that I knew they induce sleep. I started 0.2mg of Lexotanil, and after few days jumped up to 0.5mg of Xanax, within a few days, I started developing interdose withdrawal symptoms, like anxiety and fear. After a month use I decided to go off Cold Turkey. I had no clue what awaited for me was journey I will never ever wish on even my worst enemy.

After making a cold turkey quit, my fears and anxiety heightened. One morning I woke up with numbness at the back of my head. The numbness would followup after a tingling/crawling sensations. I was severely depersonalized for nearly 2 months. I started feeling myself as an outside observer of my body. I started worrying about my health and consulted a psychologist, unaware about the benzos, the psychologist thought I was suffering from PTSD and she started EMDR Therapies which didnt make any difference. I stopped seeing her because my symptoms did not improve. After 2 months the depersonalization started vanishing. But the tingling/crawling/numbness remained there. I started getting small Windows of normalcy. But I developed brain fog which made my short term memory and concentration very very weak.

After 5 months, the tingling/numbness sensation almost stopped. It was around time when I found this beautiful place Benzo Buddies. I was soo relieved to find sooo many people with similar stories. I stopped worrying about my condition. My brain fog's intensity has reduced greatly. I am now 7 months out and I feel 85-90% healed. Recently I got my Vitamins levels checked and I was severely deficient in B12 and Vitamin D. I started taking supplements, which has greatly helped.

Now, First of all I want to Thank all Benzo Buddies helping each other get out of the pit of Benzos. I want all of you to know that what you are going through is transient. One day you will be writing your success story like me. Time heals everything. Just dont dwell too much in over thinking. All this confusion will go away. Stay Positive and keep a healthy lifestyle.

Today I value my life and health alot. Earlier on I took everything for granted and I was never grateful but today I enjoy the little things that life has to offer me. I eat healthy, mediate, exercise and write a blog on positivity. For anyone going through tough times, I want to assure you that this too shall pass and one day you will smile while writing your success story like me. Stay blessed everyone and Hope for the best. Love you all my Benzo Buddies.  :smitten:

Thanks guys, you made my day with your comments.  :smitten:

@1234

My dp/dr went away slowly, it was the worst symptom of all, i felt like an auto pilot in my body, the nights were even worst, when you have insomnia along with dp/dr, your mind goes in different states of confusion, completely blank and sometimes semi concious states. I felt dreamy all the time and going to bed and waking up in the morning was sooo tiresome. I felt clumsy and a insane and at one point I questioned myself: am i going insane? But its over now, i get 6-7 hour sleep now, waking up only once during the night and go back to sleep immediately.

Thankyou all once again

@1234

Sure. I would love to share my progress with you all. A few things I would like to advice you all:

1)Eat healthy and Drink Plenty of Water.

2)Get your vitamins and minerals checked, I have a strong believe that Benzos deplete certain Vitamins (though I dont have any proof), esp Vitamin B12 & D.

3)Exercise & Yoga (atlease twice or thrice in a week).

4)Keeping a Journal(helped me in writing my feelings and thoughts on regular basis).

5)Use Reminders(my short term memory became very very weak, so reminders helped me organize everything).

6)Do some social work(when you help others, nature helps you, thats karma).

7)Dont dwell too much in over thinking, Just remember you will get better.

8)Keep your sleep timings fixed, go to bed at the same time everyday and get up on the same time, our body loves discipline.

9)Avoid Caffeine (I used to have Tea and Coffee regularly, but I shifted to Earl Grey Tea and Green Teas to help me overcome my caffeine addictions).

10)Avoid Smoking (Its an unhealthy habit and hard to quit, I used to be a chain smoker, but during my last months of recovery, I have considerably cut down to only 1 cigarette a day from 5-7 cigarettes)

These things helped me. I will again say that Time is the biggest healer when it comes to benzo withdrawal. The above mentioned things are supplementary but once recovered completely, these things are a gateway for better health in future. Stay Strong My Benzo Buddies. Love and Light for everyone.  :smitten:

Congrats,

I too am severely deficient in B12 and D...giving myself shots of the B12. Having a little trouble with the D3, get anxiety bad when I try and take the D.

See alot of people with the vitamin problems on the benzos.

Thanks for posting.
