Hello Benzo buddies.

I found you last week, took me this long to figure out how to log on.

I'm not very good with a computer, but will give it my best shot

Currently taking 40mg diazepam daily, and 6 mg of xanax daily..  Just starting to figure out a pre taper plan.  Been to the Docs, have my approval.  I know it's going to be a long road, but I'm up for it.  I was told to start with the Xanax, 5% of the original dose, every 2 weeks.

Really happy to be here.

Hi Goingforward  :) Welcome to BenzoBuddies!

I am so happy you found us. starting with Xanax is an excellent idea because it is has the shorter half-life of the two. You're right on with the recommended reduction rate of 5 - 10% every two weeks. It's important to try to stabilize as best as possible between cuts before making a new one.

You might like to check out The Ashton Manual it is an authoritative source on what to expect in withdrawal and recovery.  Dr. Ashton is an expert in the field.  She describes and explains withdrawal symptoms.

Please feel free to post to any of the dedicated boards, we have a wonderful community of people here, who will give sound advice. Members have been through all aspects of benzodiazepine use and withdrawal and are more than willing to share their experiences.

Hi, I'm not really sure how to set up a "signature"

I'll just say that  I've had back to back surgeries since 2006, my most recent was in Oct 2015, and another one up for 2016 in Oct.  I was implanted with 3 medical devices without my knowledge and each of them failed creating major damage.

ALL I wanted was some relief from anxiety which surfaced in 2010, and some sleep.  I've been told I have medical PSTD.  I'm also on a lot of pain medication ( which I want to ditch as well.  Why be on  it if it's not giving me relief.

I'm just totally gobsmacked when I realized that all these "symptoms' I've been experiencing are because of the meds.  All I wanted was relief from the daily panic attacks, insomnia, and of course the pain.  Obviously now all the symptoms are exacerbated by the drugs.

I seriously had NO idea that  "medications", approved by the FDA can be so so very harmful and deadly.

As I said before, Im weaning of Xanax first, then the diazepam, then the pain meds.  I know the xanax has to go first, i just have to figure the rest out.

Feels so good to be somewhere and be understood.

Thanks everyone.

Welcome aboard. That's a very high dose, but doable. I know this bc i was at an even higher dose initially.

Have you been able to solve the issues that the benzos were meant to address?

Absolutly doable ! I think thats the equivalent of 4 mgs of Ativan which is where

I started.. And I will get there !! This last mg is killing me !!

CB makes a good point though that I think a lot of folks miss.. Have you been able to solve the issues that the benzos were meant to address? Because if not I believe it will be even harder. My first taper failed because nothing had changed in my life ..

Just remember go SLOW ... I went like a steam engine and crashed along the way ...

Crash bandi ... What an incredible  feeling to be off . Like you only reducing very small amounts now and holding when I need to ... Hard to imagine the effect such a small amount can have...

You give me inspiration .. Thank you  BB

If that question about resolving the issues of why the benzo's were Rx'ed in the first place is for me.  NO,  Still major anxiety ( another major surgery to face in Oct., and the insomnia, it's killing me
