Hi Buddies

I'm worried, as you know I am really struggling since reducing 30mg diazepam and jumped cold turkey when I reached 7.5mg.

I'm thinking now after 4 months off what if the brain has healed now and this is my normal state. I'm really scared don't think I can go on much longer if this is my normal anxiety and fear.

Hi gingging

Benzo withdrawal is making you think all these things. I am sure you are still in withdrawal. Not many folk get better in four months.  I am sure your current state of anxiety is a reaction to coming off the diazepam.

Try to tell yourself that this is temporary even if you don't believe it deep down. Otherwise distraction is really the only thing we can do to get through the day. At my worst I had to do something every waking moment because I could not bear the depressing thoughts I had. The thoughts were still there but forcing my brain to focus on something else helped. I did hundreds and hundreds of word puzzles because I could not concentrate to do anything else. It was really hard work because I had such difficulty concentrating.

Very often, we can't control these negative thoughts so doing something is the only way to divert our attention.

Hugs

It takes 3-6 weeks to form a habit for most people.  You've been feeling lousy for at least that long, so you're starting to think this is the way things are and always will be.  That's not the case.  You will continue to heal.

I was in the same place as you at 4 months and started doubting this is w/d went back to ER, was sure I had cancer,MS, Lymes or something else.  Here at 11 months I can tell you that your CNS is still adjusting and healing.  YOU WILL GET BETTER!

Hey, GG.

I'm over 7 months out and haven't healed.

But think about what you've already accomplished - you've off of benzos during and incredibly difficult period of fear. And it's a fear that effects so much of your life.

You're an incredibly strong and brave person.

When you are well, you're going to be so much stronger for having survived this.

Like lookingforward said, try distracting as much as you can.

You're so much stronger than you think. When you're healed, you'll realize that.

You still are fairly early out gingging. Your central nervous system is still healing. Do you find yourself just a speck better than a month ago?

Even if you are healed now, your brain is still plastic enough to be retrained. Your brain isn't static, it's dynamic. And it can be trained to do just about any thing you want.

You just have to keep plugging along.

Trust me. After only 4 months, the brain is not even close to being healed.

I say this not to discourage you but to give you solace.

I'm at 15 months and still have a few problems. Not many, but a few.

At 4 months, I was a freaking wreck!

At 9 month i was a freaking wreck!

At 12 months i was getting quite a bit better.

Now, I'd say my cognitive abilities are back to around 90% and the memory is starting to work quite a bit better. No physical s/x's to speak of for around 6 weeks now.

Hang in there buddie! It's a very slow process for a lot of us and can be so damn discouraging.

Keep the Faith!
