Paradoxical Reaction?

I have not posted for quite some time and will update my signature soon.  I have tapered again from .75 mg to .25 mg Clonazepam probably too fast, but I felt I was going along smoothly until I hit a wall in October.  Things went downhill very quickly severe nausea lost 40 lbs, muscle spams and weakness, dizziness, new onset depression, shocks down my spine and limbs, head pressure, adrenaline surges and constant feelings like I am dropping floors in an elevator.  My Psychiatrist told me that my anxiety disorder needed a proper dose of Clonazepam until I felt stable again.  I reluctantly updosed to .5 mg daily. (cried and cried with each extra dose)  Now all of a sudden after each dose kicks in I feel tingles and icy cold crawling sensations over my body, anxiety with extreme grogginess and more depression. Still sleeping on it, although when I awake the hell starts. I should have known better again.... :'(

I am looking for support and wondering what steps might be best in this situation.  If I hold is it possible that I may stabilize a bit and the reaction will calm down as my nervous system does. Or should I taper slowly (not sure if I could handle cuts right now  :(.  A few years ago I had the same reaction to Ativan until I switched over to Clonazepam and had no problems.  The last few years have not been this bad.

Please no horror stories. I don't think my anxiety can handle them right now. Just looking for positive, loving support, suggestions, and if others have experienced this.  All the best Annie  :)

I had this when I got down ( !) to 1.5 mgK ( Clonzapan) I found a benzo wise Dr. Who crossed me to Valium. The cross was a bit of an updose and I felt great.

As I started coming down on the V I got some good sleep- then I got fatigued- then that passed too. The am cortosal surges have finally stopped as well.

What I am trying to say is the Ashton taper crosser over is working great for me.

The trick is to find a Dr willing to do it that way.

Thanks for replying Ego,

I had a weird reaction to trying Clonazepam in January 2012, I wanted to crawl up the walls. I think my nervous system was too sensitized at the time. Then when I crossed over from Ativan to Clonazepam in March of that year I had no issues.  In October my doctor agreed to let me try Valium but I had a similar experience of crawling up the walls and unable to sleep :( plus she was not into slowly crossing over,, it was straight across or nothing as crossing over is just silly in her mind. :-\ I decided to abort that mission fast.  Today the Clonazepam didn't make me crawl the walls as bad, but since I updosed I feel more depression now when it kicks in and extreme grogginess.  Hopefully my nervous system with stabilize and the reactions will calm down like they have in the past :(.  What did the Clonazepam make you feel like when you hit 1.5 mg?  I am dreaming of the day again when the cortisol surges are gone  :smitten:  Annie :)

Hi Annie,

I was shaky inside and out- erratic sleep– Heart palps, stuff like that. :D

As soon as he crossed me and upped me a little bit all that calmed down-I felt good-  8) slowly switched out the K for V--when Klonopin was finally gone I felt it. :-\ It took a couple weeks.

During that time I had an intense alcohol craving that I did not give into. I could not stand being touched-- that all passed- and I settled into constant fatigue with the morning cortisol crap-- which I hope does not come back.  ;)

ego is right. Try and find a doctor who is willing to make the C/O. Best decision I ever made.
