Unsure what to tell my pdoc in upcoming critical meeting...

I know I've been like a broken record but I have to repeat this again.  I'm on 1250 mg of Depakote ER and 3 mg of Klonopin.  I want off the meds but pdoc doesn't understand how to taper properly.  Pdoc thinks I can drop from 1250 mg of Depakote ER to 0 mg in 2 weeks without any issues.  Pdoc thinks I can just take any dose of Klonopin "as needed."  These are obviously incorrect answers and will lead me back into an inpatient hospital setting.  The correct thing to do is to cross-over to regular Depakote and get the dosing to have some 125 mg pills and to get the dosing of Klonopin as 6 x .5 mg = 3 mg.  However, pdoc will surely fight me and say that pdoc is correct.  Pdoc also ruined lots of things with disability, my family etc.  How do I approach pdoc who obviously has continued on the path as all the other pdocs I've seen and ruined my life and get my way without flipping out?

Hi

I am sure you are fighting with all ur might.

hang in there.

This is only my personal experience, I took depakote about 4 month, and found no problem while withdrawing from that medicine. Depakote is more likely a mood balancer for mania bipolar, I do took some while my mood is need to be busted, and stop it abrubptly. Some people might be have different condition, in my opinion why dont you see second opinion with another psychiatrist? It worth to try.

What you need to face is withdraw for benzo, if depakote can maintain your mood while withdraw from the klonopin, Imho you can withdraw from it later.

Hope you will get better. :)

Hi LifeInChaos,

I can only say that I understand you as I will be seeing my GP who thinks it's ok for him to supervise my drug cocktail and withdrawal. "You just have to do it slowly", and he tells me to ditch 0.5mg of K every month...  :idiot:

Seriously, this is outrageous. I don't know depakote but clonazepam I do...

I feel like my life has been sabotaged as well...  :'(

I'm also trying to find what to tell my doc as all I want is my prescription right and get on with my taper too. And maybe do something towards building a life rather than thinking about this problem! So you're definitely not alone

Can you stand up to your pdoc and give him some evidence from past withdrawal symptoms you've experienced for example?...

I wish I could help more... Take care xx

Well, he wants to drop you way too fast on your kpin. If you can find GOOD pdoc, I would. But I don't know where you live. Is it possible for you to tell him you want to stay on it and then make your own drop schedule? That way, you'll have enuf pills to do so. As for Depakote, I was on 750 mg for six months and just dropped it C/T without a problem. Good luck. These matters are difficult. Bets
