should i cross over?

on klonopin now, .5mg.  Ashton manual says valium is easier to withdraw from.  Should I see if my doc will allow for the switch?  I'm pretty sure he will.  Is it worth it or should I withdraw using klonopin?

You're on a relatively low dose of K (equivalent to 10mg valium), and it has a fairly long half life. It's not as long as V, but it's still pretty good.

With that in mind, I would suggest you try tapering from K first to see how you go, because crossing over to another benzo takes time, and for some people doesn't always work out well. If you find you have problems doing a direct taper from K, then you could talk to your doctor about crossing over then.

The major disadvantage with K is the size of the tablets. V works better because you can get 2mg tablets which would be equivalent to 0.1mg K. A way around that is to liquefy part of your dose and do a taper that way, which will be much easier than trying to dry cut your tablets.

I never did a liquid taper from K, but SG57 can help you out there. He is always around these posts, so I'm sure he will chime in soon.

Hi LH, DP pretty much summed it up.  K can be tapered just fine, so you don't have to switch.  Liquifying it will get around the pill size issues.

i was on valium.  my family doc said valium scares him so he switched me to clonopin.  now i am seeing a psychiatrist for my meds.  I like the fact that you can get valium in liquid form.  I was fine using valium before.  But will switching now cause me problems?  Also, on average, how long will it take me to get off this stuff when I'm at a relatively low dose now.  I've been taking clonopin for 10 months.  I was on xanax for over a year about 15 years ago before and got off it in a few weeks because i didn't know anything about it.  I don't recall having any major side effects...i'm scared i won't be so lucky this time.

That happens.  Sometimes the first time on a benzo it is easy to get off then the next time is hard.  My sister was on K for 18 months and got off no problem.

I'd say it takes a good 4-6 weeks to cross properly.  V takes time to build up fully.

If what you say is true, then I'm glad that a number people in this community don't  follow the Ashton manual blind.

Don't get me wrong, dr. Ashton's work is and will be amazing! Psychiatrists should learn her method before giving "advice" to their patients.

if switching to valium from klonopin, what is a good crossover plan.  Can you take both at the same time?  Has anyone withdrawn from Klonopin virtually symptom free?  or from Valium symptom free?

if I have built up tolerance to my dose of klonopin, does that make it harder to withdraw?  Lately, I feel like my body is saying get off this crazy stuff.  I don't feel like I get the anxiety relief that i used to from the .25mg of klonopin twice a day.  I feel like I have a lump in my throat in the evenings.  I have been on remeron for around 17 years.  When i take that at bedtime, that seems to take the lump away.  Just feel on edge most of the day.
