Hi,

 

I’m taking 20mgs Diazepam for over 3yrs for stress/anxiety, but I want off them as it’s turned me into a zombie and I’m noticing subtle changes everywhere.  My doctor is a good doctor but she isn't that clued into meds. I’ve been browsing for info on quitting because my doctors advice of cutting by 50% a week felt like my insides being dragged down a cheese grater.  I could do with some updated information as I don't think my doctor really knows what's she's saying.

I am so glad you found us. Taken long term benzodiazepines can cause a host of symptoms. It sounds like your doctor taper plan might be too quick. The recommended reduction rate is 5 to 10 percent every two weeks. One can always adjust from there.

 

You might like to check out The Ashton Manual it is an authoritative source on what to expect in withdrawal and recovery.  Dr. Ashton is an expert in the field. 

 

Please feel free to post to any of the dedicated boards, we have a wonderful community of people here, who will give sound advice. Members have been through all aspects of benzodiazepine use and withdrawal and are more than willing to share their experiences.

I read the Ashton Manual from front to back when I first joined. It gave me such a understanding of why I felt the way I did for so many years! Looking forward to seeing you on the boards.

Thanks to both of you for your welcomes. Sorry I didn't get back sooner I've been engrossed in the valium/diazepam thread whenever I can get on. The liquid in almond oil seems a popular route.

 

Anyway I've only got about 20mins left for lunch so I'm going to shoot back to that thread while I can.
