Is this tinnitus?

Hey everyone. About two or so weeks ago I started having this low hum I would notice in my ears. Its the worst when everything is very quiet. I never had tinnitus during tolerance or during my taper. Weird how it would show up now that I am off. Its not to the point of driving me crazy yet, but I definitely know it is there. One day at a time I guess.

yeah, similar thing happened to me, i never had tinnitus at all until about maybe 5 months after i jumped, then a low hum started for a while, and then it's changed over time to a really high pitched hum.  it bothered me alot at first, but now i don't notice it too much anymore, unless it's really quiet.  i think it's intensity is reducing slowly over time.  though, i've noticed too much caffeine will really ramp it up for a few days.

take care,

Zeek

Thanks for the reply Zeek. Calms me to know I am not the only one to develop this after the jump.

I am sorry you are experiencing this. Although I have no firsthand experience with having it we have many members here who have. Unfortunately it is a fairly common symptom. As unpleasant as it is it is only temporary, and should get better over time.

I was just on Wikipedia looking around.  it actually says this about tinnitus, as to possible causes:

"Tinnitus can also occur due to the discontinuation of therapeutic doses of benzodiazepines. It can sometimes be a protracted symptom of benzodiazepine withdrawal.[31][32]"

anyway, hope it starts getting better for you,

Zeek

Mine started off as  the rumpling of an earthquake.  Then sounded like i was behind a 747 at take off.  Two years later it has tamed down to a high frequency ringing.  If I get aggravated it picks up with intensity.

Tinnitus can sometimes be encountered in normal people just after hearing an extremely loud sound, such as a landing plane passing overhead.  Of course, for safety's sake, don't try and invoke tinnitus.

Most of the time, it's a high-pitched, ringing sound "inside the head", like a tuning fork, and sometimes when it gets loud it sounds like a power drill, with sensations of vibrations in the skull as well.  And yes, it's at its worst when there's no other sound around.

It's harmless most of the time, although I recall some days it gets so bad that it temporarily drowns out the sound of the TV.
