My use of Valiums to detox from Ativan's

[Ja...]

Recommended Posts

I have been on 2 mg ativan for more than 14 years, recently I tried a crazy detox by fasting for almost 3 weeks and drinking only coconut water...it failed miserably caused me to up my ativan to about 7mg and painful stomach along with my usual headache..

I tried this detox to stop that afternoon headache only to find it increased it along with all day stomach pains..the idea was to stop all drugs and drink only fluids like water or raw juices.

But one is not to take any drug whatsoever during the detox fast..but I could not do that at all, being such a long time user. ....But I thought I give it a try anyway as I did not think that I would hurt myself, and thinking that I would just return to my usual dose of 2 mg or at most 3mg. if the detox plan failed..and it did fail.....

Any way please read up on the correct way to detox by lowering your daily dose by 1mg per week as recommended by

Dr Aston Phd of the Benzo.org.uk ...Which now offers help in the West Palm Beach area..of which I will not go that far away because I now understand my condition was caused by the drug itself in a condition called 'rebound headaches'..

In 2001 I was in very very bad mental trouble and no body would help except one 86 year doctor who knew that I was in trouble and he let me try everything including ambien xanax and xanax ER..

But I liked ativan the best and over the years my condition improved so much so that I really do not need to take any more night caps of ativan for my original mental condition.

But I am hooked on them for now up 7 mg from 2mg in only three weeks...of over doing it and I can't go back down as easily as I though for it has been more than a week since I started my heavy dose..and the withdrawl pains are present day and night...

But I will update my condition periodically to let all those interested in my health updates...and how long it will take me to get down to zero mg as I was already down to 1/2 mg then took nothing for 8 days of some what painful insomnia, but I thought that I would better off in keeping my daily dose because the painful insomnia would not go away as I thought it would..

So now i understand that one must be totally free of taking any of the benzos, before trying to sleep without the taking any more benzo's.  Because the withdrawl pain does not go away so quickly simply by not sleeping unless you do not have any pain before laying down to sleep

PS I am almost 70 years old and have been on some sort drugs of for more than 40 years, but not so totally crazy as during the 1960's..as now a days I just like to live without undue old age pains, which can be prevented by healthy diet and lots of exercise but of coarse as yet I do not have the energy for more extensive workouts but I will get there knowing what I know now about my real disease.

Hi, January2014Ativan7 mg.

Welcome to benzobuddies.  :)

I'm a bit nervous by the way you're moving your doses around. 7 mg is really high dose of Ativan. I hope you can find a dose to stabilize on and then start a very sensible taper. With a slow, steady taper, I think you'll feel better.

A good resource about benzodiazepines is the Ashton Manual. Here is a link to the manual: Professor Ashtons Manual  It’s great for learning about these meds and for taper plans. Ashton recommends reducing between 5 - 10% every 10/14 days.

You'll find a great community of people here who will support and encourage you. Feel free to check out the forum and to post to any of the dedicated boards.

In addition to the Ashton Manual, here are some other resources:

For tapering advice, post here: General Taper Plans

For support with any symptoms you may have, post here: Withdrawal Support

Please add a signature (history of medication/doses etc). It will help members give you relevant advice. This link will show you how to Create a signature

Update 2 5 15

Well it has been more than one month since I started using Vals instead of regular Ativan and I am doing well at less than 10 mg per day, but I do get tired a  lot but do as much yoga as I can..

One thing bad happened on my first night of mixing Vals and Ati's was that I had a real bad nightmare and will never mix them again so long as I shall live..

I feel confident to be off of all my Valium intake within the next two months...i only achieved such a drastic reduction from 7 mg Ativan because I was only using that much for a 3 week trail period..as i was trying something that I read on the web by some anesthesiologist doctor on my own...

Anyway this made me truly believe that my daily headaches were all caused by taking Ativan and were simply withdrawal headaches..

I know that I am taking it slow but for me there is no rush as In have been on Ati's for about 14 years..but before that I was on 5 mg Valiums but not daily..

i will post again whenever I can...  :)

Edit: mixed quote

MY UPDATE MARCH 4 2014

I know that I am taking it slow but for me there is no rush as In have been on Ati's for about 14 years..but before that I was on 5 mg Valiums but not daily..and I would like to add that I use a Baby Vitamin Syringe to dilute a 10 mg Valium in 10ml of water and this is how I take my daily doseages.

Also I vary a bit because I only take my vals when needed for withdrawl headache pain sometimes I take about 8 or 9 mg (Maximum) and then sometimes less than 5 mg...and so I am not on a fixed daily dosage just yet and probably will continue my detox from Ativan in this painless way....till I need not take any at all...

i will post again whenever....

Going from 7mg of Ativan to 5mg of Valium in a few months is a remarkable feat in my book. Keep doing whatever it is you're doing because it's obviously working for you.
