Sleepless in Austin

I have been taking clonazepam for almost two years, and trying to taper for the last year. My initial complaint was insomnia and anxiety related to insomnia (I am not naturally anxious but not sleeping for six weeks can make you anxious). Clonazepam may have helped at first but, as many know, eventually had negative effects on my sleep. I tapered using a liquid suspension and did it very slowly, but have experienced withdrawal symptoms nonetheless. I have been waking up sweaty and with rapid heart rate recently and am not sure if this is related to withdrawal or to other meds I am taking (progesterone hormones and Trazodone).

I am so happy you found us. I am sorry you are feeling so badly during your taper. The symptoms you describe sound like classic symptoms of withdrawing from benzodiazepines.

 

You might like to check out The Ashton Manual it is an authoritative source on what to expect in withdrawal and recovery.  Dr. Ashton is an expert in the field.  She describes and explains withdrawal symptoms.
