Hi All

I really need hope to keep going through this. This is my story.

I was prescribed lorazepam for a nasty fear of electricity in 2004 and it worked great for 6years until I reached tolerance at 9mg and had to withdraw.

I was weaned off the drug far to quickly and suffered with severe anxiety and my fear of electricity came back but I managed to conquer it with exposure therapy.

As I was still having high anxiety (I still think it was withdrawal anxiety) my doctor reinstated me on 30mg diazepam per day.

This did nothing to help and in fact I think made me worse. My doc said to wean off the diazepam 5mg a month and when I got to 7.5mg he told me to just stop taking it.

I did all he said and now believe I am in a severe withdrawal syndrome (worse than the lorazepam withdrawal) and what's most distressing is the fact that the fear of electricity has returned again at a more intense and severe level that is not responding to therapy this time.

I am very distressed about this and was wondering if anyone has any idea whether the worsening of this fear and the failure of therapy could be anything to do with the withdrawal.

I would appreciate any advice and hope as I am very desperate and am worried that this fear is not going to get better and I will have to live without electricity forever and this would mean no normal life for me whatsoever.

Please help me someone

I'm sorry if my post is too long

Hello ginging

I am sorry your in this situation, withdrawal symptoms alone are awful and will probably be making your original fear worse, it must be dreadful.  I am sure when the benzo withdrawal symptoms ease off, you will be able to concentrate on your electricity fear...you will beat this I am sure.

It takes some time for the CNS to repair after benzos. It will get better I promise you, I am sorry the threrapy has not worked.

Hang in there

Magrita :smitten:
