Clonazapam Taper Plan

Recommended Posts

Hi - I need some advice on a Clonazapam Taper Plan.

I took 1 mg Ativan for approx. 3 weeks to deal with generalized anxiety after I lost partial sight in my left eye.  Went to Pdoc at 3 weeks and he changed my dose to .5 mg twice daily as he said it would be smoother for me and easier to taper off of.  I've now been taking the Clonazapam for almost 4 weeks and am getting withdrawal systems as my body adjusts.  The main two are anxiety and insomnia so my doc put me on a low dose of Remeron to help me sleep and it's working so far.

Anyways he is now suggesting that I taper at .25mg per week until I'm off but everything I've read says that's too fast....

Does anyone have experience with a rapid taper for a relatively short term of use?  Better yet experience?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!  I'm not sure my doctor has any idea..

Seven weeks is plenty of time to become dependent. But you are lucky as you are nipping this in the bud. Your taper schedule is fast and too much, IMHO. Your first cut will be 25% in one week. Your 2nd cut will be 33%. Your 3rd cut will be 50%. And lastly, you'll be jumping from .25 mg. I would personally would be too scared to jump from that amount. You can probably do a more rapid taper than normally advised here, since you were only on it for 7 weeks. But right now your schedule will only set you up for major problems down the road. And if it were me, I would taper down to at least .0625 mg before jumping. But I don't plan to jump until I am at .031 mg. The turtle eventually wins the race. Bets

Bets,

I agree with your slow and steady approach....

Now may I ask you a question about my next taper (from 1.5 daily) since you may still be around....this question is for any others with a successful experience tapering off K. Klonopin Club is too intense for me...sorry. ;( We are back from our trip and I am planning my next cut. The question is how much?  Originally I thought I would be able to do 10% every two weeks...don't think that is going to happen...as much as I would like.  So maybe I'll stick with the approximate 5%...for this cut that would be .0625 which is a bit less than 5% but as close as I can get.  Hope to try 5% every two to three or four weeks depending...  My symptoms haven't been too bad although at the beginning of our trip I felt unwell and doubly discouraged as I wanted to feel great.  I felt better as the trip - and time progressed. My sxs while away were more psychological than physical.  Much anxiety and some depression about that!  But now I want to proceed.  My symptom this morning - first morning home- was the ole' chest pain again.  It will pass.  Am going to go for a long walk soon (plus have lots of errands and laundry to do) and that always helps.  So, a long way of asking for advice..and your experience vis a vis your own - or others' successful taper plans. Thanks

Mana
