Each morning I fire up the pc and the first site I visit is BB. Basocref had started a thread on sleep last summer 2014 and it brought in a lot of responses from many fellow benzo brothers and sisters.  Now into late December and cold up here in New England I wanted to throw in a few thoughts and personal experiences with sleep loss etc.

 

I worked in the EMS field for 3 decades before retiring and worked some crazy rotating shifts so know first hand what sleep loss was all about . Insomnia caused by my last depressive episode is what got me into trouble in the first place. Good ole benzo prescribed for sleep , big mistake - too late now as Im tapering off this nightmare called clonazepam .

 

I read all the responses to badsocrefs original post and could easily see how many folks are going through the same thing.  Nothing is more detrimental to the body than sleep loss, obviously We all know that however I never realized just how bad it was until i lost a week of sleep just some micro sleep which is nothing.

 

The symptoms of total extended sleep deprivation are similar to WD symptoms so yes these symptoms can make WD symptoms much worst .  Everyone has their own technique as to how to try to beat insomnia.  I visited with a sleep doctor and their are so many factors invovled in sleep from A to Z.  Some suppliments work for some people and not for others. For myself I use trytophan and mixe it in with a cup or semi hot milk and a teaspoon of honey or melatonin however only a small 1mg dose is suggested. Too many users beleive the larger the dose the better however the opposite is true. 

 

The sleep doc says gets some excercise , easily said not so easily accomplish on little sleep ! As My favorite comedian Red Green would say " Were all in this together ".  Im wishing a better new year for all the BB members and hope that We can find ways to get that most important restorative sleep which is so vital to everyones recovery !
