K to V crossover advice conflicting

I was advised on here I many people to drawl directly from Clonopin and not to switch to Valium but I just read this in the Ashton maual:

"Since clonazepam has a relatively short half life, from 18 to 50 hours, I don't think it would be any easier to come off it using 1/64th mg capsules. I think you still need a long-acting benzodiazepine such as diazepam. I would also reiterate that I have known people make the clonazepam to diazepam substitution and final withdrawal without difficulty."

Right now I'm taking the .125 wafers but it sounds like Dr. Ashton recommend switching over to Valium. I don't understand why I was advised to stick with Klonopin after reading that paragraph. People on here advised Klonopin had a long half-life.

From what I understand, it's best to try and taper from your original med, if possible, rather than crossing over to Valium, especially if your original med has a fairly long half-life, which Klonopin does.  Not as long as Valium though.

Some folks can tolerate Valium well, and some can't.

At least this is what I've picked up from reading here on BB.

I don't have the direct quote in front of me, but Ashton says it's best to try to withdraw from one's original benzo if possible.  If that taper fails, then one should consider a cross to a long-acting benzo...her suggestion would be Valium.

Hope that helps clear it up.
