Last night

They really said little except talk to my doc. Was pretty useless. Last night was terrifying. I literally could not control my throat muscles. Painful and scary. I think I should be in the hospital.

You have to make that decision and then follow through with it. There's no one stopping you from voluntarily signing in. As benzos-r-cruel mentioned in another thread, it would start the ball rolling for disability, as you've mentioned financial problems.

I had awful problems with swallowing during acute because my anxiety was sky high then. Enough anxiety to set off dp/dr. If it's anxiety from withdrawal, then it will fade with time.

Tardive dyskonisia is a very serious matter and something I'm monitoring due to my 30 years on antipsychotics. Can you think of anything that might have set this off? Any supplements or other medications introduced in the past few weeks?

Satch, I get that too and it freaks me out! It's part of withdrawal. What's helps me is leaning my head back a little and stretching my throat. I basically try to make my throat wider and breath slow. I try to think good thoughts too and it will pass. It comes back and I just keep having to do the same thing. I had it last night.

Took inderal yesterday. Also benadryl. I'm totally freaked out.

After I took my meds I could not swallow. Totally freaked me out. I'm so scared I'm getting tardive dyskinesia. What do I do?

That's not exactly how TD works. In my younger hospitalized days, I was around a lot of people with this disorder. It doesn't suddenly come on when you take meds.

You sound very, very anxious. I know you've mentioned not being able to work lately. I would think that has more to do with your symptoms than anything, correct?

If you're like me, you have a giant mess of a life to clean up now. It's much easier to dwell on other things such as side effects. I hope this doesn't effect your withdrawal in the long term, though.

All I can say about the clean up stage is it's as difficult as withdrawal. It's different but it's very, very difficult. In my case, I'm having to start the clean-up stage long before I'm healed.

That's the unfortunate reality for some of us. But it IS better than getting TD for real. I'm hoping (and really thinking) your problem is anxiety and will pass in time.

I hear you. Definately anxious. However I'm definately getting some involuntary teeth and tongue stuff. Really worried me. My tongue is moving all the time now.

This is a side effect I've had to monitor for decades. If it were me, I would start a very slow taper off the AP and find a moment disorder doctor.

The Tardive Dyskinesia Center has them listed on their website:

http://www.tardivedyskinesia.com/treatment/movement-disorder-specialists.php

My mother saw a similar type of doctor for her Parkinsons. I don't think there's any real test for TD. However. other diseases / disorders have to be ruled out first, so there's a lot of tests for that.

Check out the website. There's a lot of TD information there. You may want to call one of the doctors on the site - there are many in Florida.

I know you were at the ER yesterday, but have you left a message for your doctor as well. I am in agreement with mind that this might be from high anxiety.  I do think you need to follow up your ER appointment with a appointment this week with your regular doctor. I am hoping he will order at battery of tests to rule anything else out.

Here is a little helpful hint about applying for disability. ALWAYS follow through with doctor instructions. Not following instructions can be very detrimental to ones case years down the line.  If the ER tells you to see your regular doctor you need to do that. You need to keeping following through and following through and following through until you have followed through so much you are blue in the face.

I've been unable to swallow at various times over the past 10 months, I could chew my food but I could not get the food to the back of my throat to swallow it - I would say I had pretty bad anxiety when this happened so yeah it looks like a normal withdrawal symptom. My theory is that when the brain's in its fight or flight mode, the last thing its worried about is carrying out normal tasks like eating.
