One can have "waves", where symptoms return, but this not always the case. Once I started getting better I only continue to get better and better I never experienced any waves. I would focus on today and not the tomorrow.

Absolutely, I had a horrible wave in month 8 that was comparable to when I cold turkeyed :/ but I'm doing a lot better now :) You just need to ride this out!

That's how I was once I got off Ativan too! It was all linear healing for the most part! I'm just worried klonopin is a different story :(

well, i don't wish to scare you Luigi and please know that we are all really different.

but i am long time klonopin and have a pretty amazingly scary kinda story with actually two benzo stories in my life. i will say that this last c/t from klonopin (actually i had crossed over to valium for just 3 months) but still mostly been on klonopin the last ten years -- was the absolute worst cold turkey for me and i did feel worse at the 9th month mark. but that's just me.

and i've been told over and over on here that it's not useful to compare healing times with anyone because we really don't know everyone's whole story. but i also had learned that klonopin binds to two different GABA receptor's and the subnuits where as valium and some of the other's bind to just one. i read that and talked with Perseverance about that.

so that may be another reason that klonopin "gets worse" or seems harder. i think ativan is pretty bad too from what i've read on here. they're all bad.

Can you give a link to where the info is on klonopin binding to two different GABA receptor sites?  Thanks, Sweet pea

sweet pea,

it's in one of the posts by Perseverance in the "chewing the fat" section. she has a several posts in that section and i'm not sure which thread it is where we discussed it but i will look into it and share the link, until i do since it may take time you could go to that section and read through some her threads. they're really intelligent and beneficial i think in knowing just a little more about this whole process. like for instance, she talks about how the GABA receptor becomes "absorbed" in the neuron and stuff like that. but i will try to look for it too. :)

hey sweet pea,

well, i found one of the links where she talks about the difference of klonopin and valium -- here it is...

http://www.benzobuddies.org/forum/index.php?topic=85498.190

here it is in quote so others can have a read: i still can't find the other place where it said that klonopin binded to another receptor so i'm going to ask Perseverance. according to below klonopin has a higher affinity for GABA-A receptor sites.

Further Note on Klonopin vs Valium: April 15, 2002. It is well known that Klonopin is a good anticonvulsant. In fact its only indication for use in the UK is for epilepsy. The fact that it has a higher affinity for GABA-A receptor sites than diazepam simply means that it is more potent, but potency is mainly a matter of equivalent dosages. Binding of clonazepam to receptors that do not bind to other benzodiazepines and action on sodium channel conductors are relevant to anticonvulsant effects, not tranquillising effects. The fact that clonazepam has sedative and anxiolytic actions and typical adverse effects of benzodiazepines including ataxia, irritability, depression and tolerance shows that there is little overall difference.

Since clonazepam has a relatively short half life, from 18 to 50 hours, I don't think it would be any easier to come off it using 1/64th mg capsules. I think you still need a long-acting benzodiazepine such as diazepam. I would also reiterate that I have known people make the clonazepam to diazepam substitution and final withdrawal without difficulty.

Well not to scare you but I'm 15 months out and I'm in a really bad wave now for the past 5 weeks. It's worse than what I went through during acute. My acute wasn't really terribly bad though. It wasn't easy but it wasn't like this either. I healed in a linear fashion from my last valium withdrawal and it only lasted 3 months.

prettydaisys,

Thanks so much for the link and the info.  Perseverance is a wealth of information, and all the people at BB that have done research and imparted their knowledge.  I am so glad I found everyone here to help with all those WHY?? questions.

Sweet pea
