I think it's finally time to go to hospital. I'm still actively suicidal. Do you think there's any chance doc understands benzo wd. How do you get voluntarily admitted.

I found in my personal experiences that finding a doctor that even knows about benzo dependency is rare.

If you're thinking of admitting yourself to a mental hospital, you may try just calling a helpline instead. If you go into a mental hospital, they are just going to drug you and add to the problem. They don't counsel you in a mental hospital, they test out drugs on people. I know this to be true for me based on when I voluntarily checked myself into a mental hospital on Thanksgiving last year. :). I suspect they are all the same.

Good luck.

Satch, just tell them you are suicidal because of this. Make sure you sign the voluntary papers before you're admitted. They will want to try different drugs on you but you don't have to take anything. It's all your call.

Yes, Satch!! How many times do we have to tell you? Lol. Benzo withdrawal is not something to kill yourself over as its temporary. Worst case scenario is they pull you off Seroquel and Remeron and give you an SSRI.

SSRIs work for people in alcohol and benxo withdrawal. Its just a matter of finding out which one works best for you. You aren't sensitive to meds. You will be fine and this could jump start you in the right direction.

You're gonna be fine. Explain to them that you took a benzo, you withdrew from it, but are experiencing a discontinuation syndrome from the medication. Advise them its similar to alcohol withdrawal as it works on the same receptors. You're gonna be fine.

Weevil. What happened at hospital.

The ONLY two benefits to the hospital IMO is that they will try to prevent you from killing yourself, based on my experience. They don't accomplish this by counseling people, but by force. They didn't seem to care about healing people and seemed more focused on trying different drugs on people. Then the second benefit may be an excuse to escape from the daily pointless drudgery of life of the current social configuration

I think that our mental issues are mainly a result of a sick society that has not become aware that survival of the fittest is a variable. The bottom line would be better shifted to caring for each other rather than profit.

Most of us have heard the phrase, "survival of the fittest". Most of us fail to recognize that phrase as a variable; we can specify how it applies to animals and humans differently Korzybski noted,

"The "survival of the fittest" for animals (for space-binders) is survival in space, which means fighting and other brutal forms of struggle; on the other hand, "survival of the fittest" for human beings as such (that is, for time-binders) is survival in time, which means intellectual or spiritual competition, struggle for excellence, for making the best survive. The-fittest-in-time (those who make the best survive) are those who do the most in producing values for all mankind including posterity. This is the scientific base for natural ethics. "

We don't suffer through life to meet our needs because of a lack of resources, technology or manpower. We suffer for these things because we all choose to keep doing things in a way that's proven not to work. Lol

What happened in the hospital was that I realized that society as a whole is sick. The people running the show being as sick as the patients, in that they too are missing the root issue. I realized that in general, people are lost and focused my on drugging problems away rather than address root causes. I realized that I care about other people which made me realize that people do care, if I care. I realized that my sickness was actually how I reacted to the world around me.

When I go to the ER they try to give me pain killers or benzos every time. I never get anything out of going to the ER except some peace of mind knowing I'm just suffering benzo withdrawal and not some disease. Oh and I get to pay 100 bucks.

What state are you in Satch, as in Maine, Texas ...

Also, there are many places you can find lists of benzo-wise doctors. If you find one affiliated with a major teaching hospital, you might luck out.

If you do the research I'm sure you can find one.

I would also get one of those medical alert bracelets saying that you are allergic to benzos. They'll be too afraid of a lawsuit to give you a benzo. Also might want to include Quinolone antibiotics and anything else known to trigger benzo trouble.

Good luck buddy!

It's shocking that we have to educate our doctors about this, after 40 years.

Satch, this forum is the best place I've found for support. Otherwise I'd feel completely on my own. As supportive as my family is, I can tell they don't want to be bothered and are annoyed by me. Sometimes i wished i was alone, actually I am alone a lot. Way more than I have people around me. One day this will seem like a big dream. If you really think you are capable of self harm them maybe look into an anti depressant?

Satch,

It is time to call your doctor immediately to say you are suicidal. He/She will be able to get you admitted. Since you are willing to go voluntarily there will be no need for a Chapter 52 (it may be called something else in Florida). I would not worry at this point if the doctor will understand benzodiazepine withdrawal. I am more concerned about your safety.

You are at the point where you need to get help NOW satch.

The feelings and thoughts you are having are the product of withdrawal. I know firsthand how frightening they can be.

Again, please get help now.  Here is a link to our Suicide and Self-harm links page:

Again, we care about you here. Please stay safe.

I have been in the psych ward multiple times because of being suicidal. I was never forced to take medications....ever. All of my stays were EXTREMELY helpful not only in keeping me safe, but I also learned better coping skills.  I also met a whole lot of really nice people.

Satch, please call your doctor now, as benzos-r-cruel has urged you to do.  Please.

Satch, I agree.  You need face-to-face help now.  Internet support can only go so far.
