Orange and milk

I think my insomnia has been improving lately. I still don't sleep perfectly, and I still have anxiety around the thought of sleeping )or not sleeping really).

I haven't missed a night of sleep in about 2 months. I've had some pretty crappy nights where it was a battle to fall asleep, or nights where I just can't seem to sleep more than 4-5 hours, and I lay there frustrated and anxious.

But over the last week, I've been eating an orange about 2-2.5 hours before bed, as I read that oranges naturally help regulate cortisol.

I also drink a small glass of warm milk due to the tryptophan.

Not sure if it's in my head, but I have been sleeping pretty decently. Will keep it up and see if anything changes.

Hope everyone out there is doing well :)

Glad to hear the sleep is improving Damien. I drink warm milk at bedtime every night but I haven't heard of the orange juice, I may well give that a try myself. Thank you for sharing and I hope the good sleep continues for you

Still have some anxiety about sleep, but seems to be lessening with time.

I'm going away to Las Vegas on Wednesday for a couple of nights, and I am nervous about sleeping away from my own bed and comfort.

Any suggestions?

The more time you spend thinking about it in advance, the more you're psyching yourself up. I used to do all the same stuff.

I never sleep as well or as comfortably when I am travelling as I do when I'm home. I don't think most people do. In fact, sometimes I barely sleep at all for the first night or two of a trip, and then at some point I become very exhausted and shut down for 10 hours.

When I am about to travel and find myself thinking about this issue, I just tell myself "yup, maybe I won't sleep very well on this trip, and that's okay because it's not going to hurt me or do anything very bad to me, it's just a minor annoyance, and not something that's worth spending time and energy thinking about". I still don't necessarily sleep very well on such trips, but I just don't let that dictate how I should act or feel.

One plus side of insomnia in vegas is that the city never sleeps or shuts down, and you can meet some of the most interesting people on the strip at 4am... :D

Very good advice.

I tried not to let the sleep anxiety take over my thoughts, and enjoyed my first day there. Took a Benadryl and knocked out for a good 7 hours.

Did the same the next night.

Getting through the trip and seeing that nothing terrible happened has definitely increased my confidence around the issue.

I even dozed off for a brief bit on the plane, which is my first daytime nap since being on the meds.

Still having issues with waking up after 5 hours every night now. But I usually get back to sleep. Hoping this will eventually turn into getting a bit more sleep without the disturbance.

Hope everyone is doing well, and happy holidays to all :)
