Been taking clonazepam for several years

I have been taking clonazepam for several years at 1mg, 1 - 2x day. I just saw that I may be at increased risk for Alzheimer's! I just e-mailed my doctor to ask if she thinks I can stop this medication and how I should go about tapering off.

Hello Mingster.  Welcome to the forum, we're glad you found us!  Yes, there are many good reasons to get off benzos, and this may be one of them. Benzodiazepines do affect the mind and body in many ways, though most of those effects are temporary and will heal once you've been off the drug for awhile.
