Dependence and dosing

I am wondering why it's so hard to just stop Xanax. If the half-life is short, and I'm only taking a dose per day (right now .125mg - 1/4 of peach pill), why aren't I withdrawing all day? Is part of it psychosomatic, or is there a real reason?

I hear all of you who have suggested that I not jump from .125mg, that I go to .0625 first. I will do that, but when I see how tiny the piece is, even at .125mg, I have to wonder.

Thanks for indulging me.

You never said in your sig when you started taking Xanax. If it is a recent event, it probably still works for you. For those who have become tolerant, then it can be a mess for them, as it has that short have life. That can mean they can suffer from interdose withdrawal. Many people dose Xanax 4X a day, to avoid this. fwiw, I think your taper is too fast and too high of a drop and it may catch up with you. Bets

I'll fix my signature. Long-term use, over ten years.  I've alwasy taken the peach pill at about 5:00 pm everyday. So wonder why I didn't w/d everyday during the day.  Prior to tapering, I was taking more (up to 1mg, but usually .75mg) due to stressful time at work, then went back to the .5, and stayed there for months, until before Thanksgiving.
