My family is pissing me off they're trying to control my life, encouraging me to take this FUCKING poison, excuse my language. I feel like a zombie, have been on it over a month, this is the last medication I'm on and the final straw. Can anyone offer their own personal story of withdrawal from this shit, if I get my GP's go ahead to come off of this man-made trash what do you think will help with a smoother taper and an easier landing back to reality?

Hi, Rarthyr. Were you placed on Seroquel after being on a SSRI? And are you still taking the SSRI? Please give us a bit more information so we can help you. I remember you mentioning an AD earlier.

Ouch. I was taken off a SSRI cold turkey last year and it wasn't pleasant at all.

Did your pdoc explain how Seroquel works? It's sedating at 100 mg or less and works on histamine receptors. Above 100 mg, it effects dopamine and works as an antipsychotic.

Are you on it for sleep and anxiety or for psychosis?

You know what that's a good question I'll ask my pdoc. I'll get back to you on that.

Do you think the seroquel is helping.

Yeah it is. I need to calm down. I haven't been on it for long. I am just in a place where I am feeling angry towards doctors in general.

To clarify a previous comment regarding the binding affinity of Seroquel.

At doses of about 150 mg and above it is considered to be an anti-psychotic b/c it acts as both a Dopamine and Serotonin receptor antagonist. The higer the dose the more it affects Dopamine.

At doses of approx 100 mg and less it is prescribed as an off label use for both insomnia and anxiety b/c it  binds both Histamine receptors and the alpha-1/alpha-2 adrenergic receptors. The lower the dose the higher the binding affinity for Histamine and the more sedating.

If you were diagnosed as Psychotic then 300 mg would be considered an acceptable dose. If you are not psychotic then I suspect that the person who prescribed that dose does not have a thorough understanding of the binding affinities of Seroquel. Specifically the binding affinities for various neuroreceptors are dose dependent.

I took it for 4 years. I now know for a fact that it partially masked w/d from benzos during that time. If you want to get off it just do a reasonable taper like anyone should from any drug. Good Luck.

Confirms my research Mandala, well explained.

Do you guys think the remeron is pushing the seroquel into an antipsychotic level.

Remeron acts on Norepinephrine and Serotonin not Dopamine. Generally speaking it's a drugs that affect Dopamine that make it an antipsychotic or atypical AP in the case of Seroquel. So based on that, the answer to your question would be no. There is lots of info online for you to read regarding the two drugs you are taking.
